Want to lose weight and maintain

I've been in good shape most of my life, but every so often have gotten out of shape. I usually get plenty of exercise, but sometimes fall into the trap of overeating. My main exercise has always been martial arts. For many years I worked out with a karate training dummy I designed, which is a very good whole body workout. Now at 59 I'm a little old for that sort of thing, and so do more traditional karate exercise. Also weights, walking, running, bicycling, gardening, etc.

Update: I finally decided to get serious about losing weight and more or less doubled my activity while drastically cutting back on food. In a little over a month I went from 210 down to 180; 42" waist to 36". I know that's faster than is recommended, but it's the only way that has ever worked for me, and I feel fine, and felt fine while I was doing it.

My Goals:
At this point my goal is to maintain my weight at between 175 and 180 pounds, which has always been best for me.

My Program:
Weights at the YMCA 3 days a week. At least one hour fast walk per day. Short periods of intense martial arts. Swimming a few days per week. 12,000 steps per day minimum (I wear a pedometer). Don't overeat, and eat only high nutrition food.

Read your comments on Interval Walking Workouts. It makes more sense to listen to my body than to worry about doing exact minutes. Thanks for your comment and common sense.

Read your comments about the benefits of interval training as i will embark on a regimen called GRUNT & GROWL SUPERSETS / GRIZZLY BEAR INTERVALS CONDITIONING. This will coincide with my training in Filipino Martial Arts, as my 3 years of searching here in Seattle has allowed me to find the one Academy that mirrors the JKD concept of the legendary Bruce Lee, and to my surprise, Bruce's protégé and lifelong student / friend, Dan Inosanto makes frequent stops to that particular Academy as it specializes in his Punong Guro's FMA concept as well as another well known FMA practitioner here in Seattle. keep me posted of your trainings and any & all tips that you would like to share.
