Hello! My name is SJ and have had weight issues all my life - I was chubby child, an overweight teenager and an obese 20-something year old! I have tried so many times to lose weight with varying degrees of success. In 2002, I was 200-ish lbs and decided that I needed to lose weight. Through hard work (exercise and restricting what I eat), my weight went down to 140 lbs over the course of 1 year. Stupidly, the weight began to pile back on because I thought that 'I've lost the weight now, I don't have to be so careful about what I eat or make sure I exercise!'. Over 2 - 3 years, all the weight came back on and more! Eventually my weight went up to 205 lbs (15 and a half stone)! I joined SparkPeople in 2008 and have tried losing this weight ever since. I've had my ups and downs but am currently at 168 lbs and am 21 lbs from my goal of 147 lbs (10 and half stone). It's been a long progress but I'm slowly getting there!

One thing I need to be aware of is that although I did feel better when I was slimmer, I need to remember that even though losing weight is good, it won't solve all of my problems. I used to think that if I weighed X amount, I would be happy, confident, not be shy, etc, but in truth, I'll be the same but just weigh less!

My wish is to become my very own success story and be one of those nominated 'motivational sparkpages'!

My Goals:
My long-term goal is get my weight between 140-147 lbs. I have been this weight before and felt at my healthiest. My current short-term goal is finish the C25K programme. I have tried to do this programme several times before but give up halfway through. This time I will stick with it because I view it as my goal to lose weight - if I give up halfway or do a half heartened effort, I wont get to where I want to.

My Program:
I'm trying to lose my excess weight but eating healthy and within 1400 - 1500 calories, in addition to working out regularly.
I'm a vegetarian so eat lots of fruit and vegetables, and prefer to cook my own food than rely on processed meals and junk food. I aim to record everything I eat and exercise in SP so that I'm aware and take responsibility for my actions. I hope to about 1 or 2 lbs a week. My main downfalls are portion control and not succumbing to eating 'bad' food when I'm really hungry and don't feel I have the energy or time to cook proper food.

I like to alternate my workouts so for example one day I will do taebo cardio, the other day go to the gym and do cardio and strength training, next day do a fitness DVD or go for a jog.

My goal is to create a calorie deficit of 3,500 in my eating per week (which should equal to losing 1 pound of fat) and a deficit of 3,500 calories through exercise.

I really liked reading your comment on Kanoe10's blog. I know exactly what you mean about wanting to enjoy a food that you know is righteously on your program. Pannetone is the one holiday treat I missed last year and this year I actually ran into a low-calorie recipe for bread pudding using Pannetone and egg whites. I usually only eat whole wheat bread but this was the one exception I made for Christmas and I tracked it into my Spark Tracker as breakfast.

Thanks for your support on my blog. Yes, I cannot understand why people feel the need to judge people on what they eat. I think it is an attempt to control others out of insecurity. Also I think people have trouble with seeing others change and being different from the rest. It is sad that it can come from family members and friends. The aren't you on a diet comment you received is similar to my co-worker's. Both assume they can tell us what we are eating. You wanted a small treat and how did my co-worker know that I might not indulge in a rum ball?
stay strong during the holidays. We can do this!
