Its that time of year where Summer will soon slip by as a memory and Fall will hit us with the STING Of cold air ! I live in Maine and winter lasts from at times late October and almost always by the 2nd or 3rd week of November. We ENJOY the Summer as much as possible because those 99 days go FAST !!! At this writing we are still hitting in the low 80s. This has been a hotter than normal Summer being in the 90s for over 7 days. The humidity has been in the 90s and the dew points in the 70s. THANKFULLY for AC !!

I've been dealing with a wound on my foot for the past 15 months which has not wanted to stay healed. It heals (inside a cast) than I return back to shoes made from castings of my feet, non the less though the shoes have been worked on many times, the wound reoccurs. At this writing I am going to be seeing my foot Dr for the big toe on left food being amputated. This is the first of others to follow until it's done up to the knee. Please know I am ok with it,, well as much one can be.

When I am going through such a thing,,, it does NOT help me dwell on the negative thoughts instead I look towards the healing and the FUN i can return to !!! This had started out with many previous surgeries over a span of at least 7 to 10 yrs, I've lost track. Two years ago, a surgery on it, just didn' work out well. I've known for quite some time this would be the outcome. In the past 2 yrs I have hardly been able to swim ! I ADORE swimming, so I am very much looking forward to being healed and returning back to the pool !!! My friend who goes also has only gone a few times, she told me the other regulars are missing me. Of course by the time I return some of them might no longer be there.

It's the BREAK between the Summer and Fall 5% Community Challenge. On this team, we are divided into 12 teams who compete with each other for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd place by doing the most exercise, the most points from doing different healthy skills every 2 weeks, and the ultimate goal, to lose 5% of our weight !! In the Winter and Spring Challenges I DID lose my 5% !! That was 12 lbs in 8 weeks and than 11 lbs in 8 weeks. For the Sumer Challenge I STILL Did very well at 8 lbs in 8 weeks ! The break is most likely 4 to 6 weeks of which I am doing my BEST to lose 1.25 lbs each week, and HITTING my goal of 10 lbs loss during the FALL Challenge. If you aren't a part of this team and would like to be, please just say so.

Now is it EASY to lose these pounds? I've told you about my foot ,, but I also have scoliosis which was known when I was born,,, no X Ray needed,,, my Dad has it also, along with fibromyalgia (if you know anyone with this you know it's pain 24/7 which moves from one spot to another, causes brain fog and it's very hard to sleep) along with spondylolthesis (hope I spelled that right) my L5 has slipped so it's over the L4 (I fractured my back in HS doing a move in gymnastics,,, my spotter turned away just as I was up in the air going into a backward flip ). So yes, I deal with pain all the time, but you know what? It's ONLY pain !! SO MANY STRONGLY believe when your in chronic pain if you try to exercise it'll HURT YOU MORE ! HOWEVER I've found,, thanks to a physical therapist who laid it FLAT Out that when you exercise it HELPS to REDUCE the pain !! ALWAYS check with ur Dr before starting an exercise routine, but DO NOT hang back. MANY of my friends who hadn't believed it, are now doing so. It WORKS !

Hi Diane! No, we aren't in the flooding area. We're about 2 hours away from New Orleans and the other areas that flooded in Louisiana are even further away. A lot of businesses over here and churches are collecting food, water, and household items to take over there. Some of them are staying and helping clean up. We got so much help after Katrina that most people feel compelled to help them now. I've been donating at my church and praying for them.

Hi, Diane. Hope the wet cast didn't cause too much trouble for you! You mentioned in your friend feed that it set you back some. How discouraging...2 steps forward...2 1/2 back...or so it seems sometimes!

We're doing pretty well here. Other than making zero progress on my WL efforts, I'm doing pretty well. My back has been a mess since January when I sat at the hospital for a week with my Mom before she died. I had an injection at the end of May, and it helped a lot...for one week! I won't be doing another one. It isn't worth it to me if it doesn't help any more than that. So, I'm just doing as much as I can and trying my best to keep active and not get too sedentary. There are lots of things I can do, so I try to focus on that.

Remember that ulcer Richard had on his ankle for 2 years? It finally healed up about 2 months ago. We were beginning to think that it would never get better, but finally it did!! Thank the good Lord! Now he wears his support hose every day and he can put those on himself, so I don't have to do the foot and leg prep anymore!! Awesome!! One knee bothers him, and that may be more arthritis, but he doesn't complain, sleeps fine and unless something changes, I'm pretty sure he will never see about doing "something" with it. He already has 2 artificial shoulders, 2 artificial hips, and a fused ankle. Not sure we'd survive another replacement procedure!! Yikes.

That is just great news about your good friend and her WL!! How wonderful! And, sounds like she has a whole new wardrobe, thanks to you!! Hope to see an update on your foot...sending you lots of love and prayers!! Hugs, Jeannie emoticon

Sending him a recorded message is a good idea, the inly thing that I don't know though if that the friends of his I got him to live with 3 months will give it to him. I am hoping that on his end that he will get a machine of some sort for the computer where he can speak in and where I speak out. I really have no idea if can do this on a computer w/o one problem is getting the word about one to him. I was looking into going to visit him but just can't afford it. I think I have let enough time pass by since my strokes to get back into getting to work.

The nurse told me that my insurance Will not cover the study if I get less than two hours of sleep. If I have apnea they have to wait two hours before placing me on a CPAP. I hope no goop on my hair LOL. She will be coming to wire me up in 10 minutes. The chair at the desk is very uncomfortable LOL. I just took my meds. Hopefully I can get to sleep on my back nonetheless as the nurse says that it is best for the test, however not my back.
