I'm a wife and mother. My kids have grown up a lot since I started here on Spark People. A new wrinkle in my life is unemployment and being over 50 and overweight as well. I must take hold of my weight or it will kill me.

My Goals:
I am getting below 200 in 2013.

My Program:
The only thing that has ever worked for me is to minimize high carb eating. I intend to continue this process now that holidays are over. If I do find myself eating foods high in carbs, I mind the portion size--I avoid pigging out on fat-creating foods!

Personal Information:
My hobbies used to be centered on my job as a teacher. Now I still read voraciously and take an online class to satisfy my intellectual needds. My hobbies now are centered around my home and trying to get healthier and more fit. At times I can get fired up about knitting or crochet. I am a fan of FlyLady's principals. I like to travel.

Other Information:
I'm unemployed and it's been an adjustment finance-wise. Fortunately, my husband is my best friend. I have two loving and supportive children that are teens now. I love reading and watching TV. Wish I loved running and sweating!

Thanks for visiting my blog today, He was my mentor in college and the one who taught me how to write. But I have always had a problem in my writing moving between non-linear scenes or events. Michael told me to read and refer back to those two books when ever I needed to learn or relearn how to move between events. But I never grow tired of reading those books or any of his work he was an exceptionally gifted author and a very good friend.

Thanks for the suggestion on my blog about Sonic. I do actually have a to go container with baked chips, nuts etc. Things I can eat. But, I was in my DHs truck and I didn't plan to be away for lunch. It was a weak moment!

But, I'm doing fine and each time something like that comes up I learn from it.

Hope you are doing well. I lost 15 last month so I'm a happy camper.

Hi Friend - sorry I just read ur March post - wd love to join a lb a week challenge but I am four months late! lol Anyway just got back on track (for the most part) and wd like to be friends on this journey if u wd like! I am 64 and am setting a first goal of twenty lbs and then will set another after that - I figure I will b more encouraged if I keep my goals within sight! Sue

I was reading a blog I had written back in March after my diagnosis of diabetes 2 . This is what you commented: "Everyone says to avoid processed foods. It's difficult when relying on them is a lifetime habit"

I have been avoiding them for over 110 days now. It can be done. And I am reversing my diabetes 2. I have never felt better in my life than I do now.
