I am starting over...AGAIN! My health stats and weight have been getting progressively worse over the past three decades. I have tried everything from calorie counting (which worked until I stopped counting) to Jenny Craig to hypnosis. Nothing had any long-term success. After visiting my health conscious 98-year old grandmother last week, I have finally realized that I need to focus on my health, not my weight. If I eat right, the weight will take care of itself. To that end, I just bought myself my first-ever set of quality pots and pans AND a knife set. Yep....the one paring knife I owned wasn't cutting it! ;) I'm motivated to take control of my health by moving to a mostly whole foods, plant based diet. The hardest part for me will be giving up high fat/high sugar desserts like ice cream, as well as coffee, because I am addicted to both.

My Goals:

* Get total and HDL cholesterol back into the "normal" range.
* Reach 160 lbs.
* Increase physical fitness and ability to move without pain in knees
* Limit coffee to 1 cup per day.




My Program:
* Implement one small goal every two weeks.
* Increase whole foods, fruits and vegetables.
* Limit saturated fat and sugar
* Complete physical therapy program
* Continue to exercise when physical therapy is complete



Personal Information:
54-years old, licensed teacher from the Chicagoland area. Mother of 2 grown children, 1 spoiled shih-tsu, 2 fat cats, and 1 interactive betta fish.


Other Information:
I LOVE to garden and wish I had a much bigger yard with much less clay! I also enjoy reading, traveling, walking my dog, theater, swimming, crochet, and photography. My ideal day would involve sunny weather and a beach.

I am a licensed teacher who is currently looking for work.

    I absolutely agree that once off track it's hard to get back on. I've decided it isn't worth it. I ate pecan pie at Christmas and felt crummy for days afterwards. I haven't had sugar in so long I guess my body rebelled. I hope you found that inspirational cookbook. I have been enjoying Hungry Girl Clean & Hungry: Easy All-Natural Recipes for Healthy Eating in the Real World by Lisa Lillien and my fav, Soup & Comfort: A Cookbook of Homemade Recipes to Warm the Soul by Pamela Eligen. We've had very summery kinds of weather lately (sometimes in the 80s), but today it is storming. It is true that if you don't like the weather in Texas wait five minutes and it will change. LOL!     Thank you for stopping by my blog about not being 18. I enjoy working with these kids and try to participate as much as I can. I feel it sets a good example. I felt ok most of the day until I got home and my hip was really hurting, so I iced it and then it was ok.
    I used to do cartwheels and round offs.
    I deal with depression and anxiety. It can be really rough.
