Aloha ~

I'm DJ ... a happily retired 63 year old committing to living a healthy lifestyle from now on.

My food plan is based mostly on McDougall, Vegan and Ayurveda plans/influences.

I am limited with knee and joint pain so slowly building up my exercise options currently with Tai Chi, Yoga and Walk Away the Pounds workouts plus lots of gardening and yard work - which I love to do! Edit: July/2016 ... well, my knee/joint pain was not cooperating with my choice of exercise plus I had a fall that did not help matters. I'm now doing knee strengthening exercises and chair exercising using Spark resources. It's helping! :-)

Though I need to lose weight (my highest weight 223 lbs.) my main focus is health. In the past 4 decades of my 'dieting' history it was more about the number on the scales and calories in/out. Now I'm more focused on my health and a drop in the number on the scale is more of a nice 'side effect' of changing my lifestyle relationship to food. I have experienced several major health improvements since changing my diet 3 years ago to a starch based, whole foods, plant based way of eating and I'm happy to have found that food can be my medicine lieu of prescription medications ... and it can be delicious and enjoyable all at the same time! I find it challenging and adventurous to explore, try and create a whole new way of eating!

    Thanks for the welcome to the team and goodie. The Starch Solution's been pretty easy to follow and the best part is eating pizza, potatoes and pastas without all the guilt. I was hesitant at first with all the negative 'propaganda' associated with 'starch' especially pasta and potatoes but when I didn't gain and in fact lost weight, I was sold. I still overeat but not like when I first started.

    I recently tried a potato pancake (mashed 2 potatoes with about a TBSP or less of almond milk to help soften and spices to taste). Put in a non stick pan. Flatten like a pancake and round out the edges. Cook on medium low heat 20 minutes, turn over, cook 20 more minutes. Add jelly on top...OMG delicious! Got that recipe on youtube from a guy who's on a potato diet for a year. He just uses spices, sauces and jellies for variety. I think his channel's spud fit if you're interested.

    Enough gabbing. I hope we're both successful eating this way. Even if the weight loss is slow, at least our insides are benefiting 100%. Have a great day!
