I'm trying to lose weight and get into shape, but it has been a journey! I started on May 1, 2010, and since then have found some pelvic issues (related to my hysterectomy) that prevented serious exercise for a few months but are now under control, and I've also dealt with several hormonal and health issues (low estrogen, low vitamins B & D, low thyroid -- geez, do I have anything in me except fat?!).
While I've lost nearly 30 pounds, it's a SLOW 30 pounds, less than a pound lost per month. :( It's a big change from the last time I lost 30 pounds in about 5 months -- with far, far less effort (and I had kept most of those 30 pounds off up until Nov., 2009).
I originally described myself as a veritable couch potato, but I can now say that I'm becoming a gym rat! My husband and I joined a gym in October, 2012. I'm lifting weights three times a week, doing core classes twice a week, cycling classes twice a week, another yoga or body sculpting class each week, and at least 2 other cardio workouts each week. I also run outside and enjoy riding my road bicycle with my husband, son, and son-in-law.
There's probably nothing earth shattering (or even remotely interesting) for most people to read, but keeping up with the Spark website keeps my hands busy (and therefore not snacking!), and it's a great place to have a plethora of data points telling me that I'm on track (or not). I kinda need that big brother giving me non-judgmental feedback.
I'd like to feel better about myself. I'd like to lose weight and look better; lose weight to feel like I can be more active; and exercise to feel better.
Small, incremental changes to ensure that this is a lifestyle change. Adding a little exercise and slowly reining in the food tends to work for me. I've already lost 30 pounds and kept it off for 5 years, and now I want to tackle the next 30.

I saw your post about the chain oil stain and removing it at the Cycle page ... good tips. I especially liked the term 'chain tattoo' haha, I will have to mention that to my wife ...she gets those all the time!

Loved your post about SERIOUS workouts. I sooo get caught in the mental trap of keeping up with my husband or others. He is very competitive. When we "run" in city events he has run the 10K I did the 5 K and we finish about the same time. He is 6' 5" and I am 5' 7". Why do I even consider that I ought to keep up with him? I know I can't keep up with him but I hate it when it gets me into not even participating mode. Any exercise is better than sitting on the couch eating chips or brownies. He likes to exercise alone. I like to walk/run with someone. It is tough to find others that want to go the same pace. Thanks for your encouraging post.
