Hello and welcome to my SPARKPAGE. I started my road to fitness when I was diagnosed with oesteoarthritis in both knees and was told I needed a knee replacement.

The surgeon said that I need to lose about 100 pounds and that would help take some of the stress off my knees until I was able to afford the replacement. No insurance, so no way to pay for it. The only thing he could really do was to give me arthritis medication.

One of the side effects of the medication is weight gain. So it is a constant battle to lose weight but I'm doing it. I had already joined SPARKPEOPLE about 5 months earlier but wasn't really using it like I should have been. That night I logged in and I've been here ever since.

***Osteoarthritis is the physical deterioration of the cartilage around areas of the bones that meet to form a joint. Cartilage is a remarkable substance—one thousand times more slippery than wet ice and able to cushion the weight of our bodies as it presses our bones tOGETHER. But when our cartilage deteriorates, our joints ache and become inflamed because the protective barrier is no longer there to protect one bone from grinding against another.***




12/04/10 That is what this year shall be know as-the YEAR OF KNEE REPLACEMENTS. I had my right one done November 19th. I am currently getting around with a walker and am hoping to be able to start using a cane next week. MY legs are straight now and that is cool. They were both bowed a lot due to the osteoarthritis and it was affecting my lower back. I'm also doing my own physical therapy for this leg too. I was quoted a cost of $115 for every 15 minutes. Sure cant afford that.

4/24/10-Anyone who would like some general information on knee replacements can read my past blogs starting in March. Feel free to sparkmail me if you have any questions. I might not be able to answer them but I'll help as much as I can.

4/14/10-Update-well knee surgery is done on the left knee and doctor is pleased about my progress even after 2 weeks. Since I had to do this without any medical insurance, he advised me to do my rehab on my own since it is expensive. So as soon as I am able I will be getting proactive with my exercises. I'm only two weeks in from my surgery and it's too soon to do a lot of things yet but I can continue to do my leg strengthening workout that the hospital gave me. As soon as he clears me, I'll start walking then go from there.

3/20/10-Update-Will be having a total knee replacement on March 31st. It's been a long time coming. Still having some eating issues and right now my knees are so bad that cardio is out of the question. So I'm back to doing strength training and toning. At least it is something.


1/4/10-Update-The last couple months I have been a naughty girl. I've gained back 10 pounds. But I won't let that discourage me. I know that I can and will get back on track and get that pesky 10 pounds back off. I've been working out 5 days a week so far even though it is hurting my knee but I know I have to do it.

Am in the process of deciding on new goals.

My Program:
My program has changed many times since starting here.. Right now I'm hooked on the BIGGEST LOSER so I've purchased the program, cookbook and exercise program. I'm also using MY FITNESS COACH and GOLDS GYM for the Wii. I get sidetracked along the way and don't use it but I know that have it for reference. I'm still eating lower carb.
