The Obligatory Title!

Yup. This is my spark page. Yay!

I've tried to get rid of some excess weight in the past and was doing pretty good at various points, but life always seemed to get in the way for one reason or another. It's really hit home that I have the ability now to make a choice to be healthy in the future. I've watched my mom have to have a knee replaced (partially from the weight, partly from lots of use as a mail carrier), then she was in the hospital due to an elevated heart beat and ...
Yup. This is my spark page. Yay!

I've tried to get rid of some excess weight in the past and was doing pretty good at various points, but life always seemed to get in the way for one reason or another. It's really hit home that I have the ability now to make a choice to be healthy in the future. I've watched my mom have to have a knee replaced (partially from the weight, partly from lots of use as a mail carrier), then she was in the hospital due to an elevated heart beat and most recently she was diagnosed with diabetes. It's making me want to take care of myself better now in hopes of avoiding some of the same things down the road.

Exercise wise, I really am liking indoor cycling (spinning) classes, yoga, and throw in some strength training with Body Pump classes. And then toss in walking and playing with three large dogs and a serious nature photography hobby that involves hiking with heavy backpacks of gear.

Food wise - I'm a vegetarian 95% of the time and am also gluten intolerant. But I love trying different recipes and types of food!

I got burnt out in the past because I became so obsessed with tracking every little thing and would get upset if plans changed and I couldn't eat what I had intended for the day . I think that comes from the whole anal retentive, obsessive engineer side of me that likes to plan.

So the plan this time around is to go easy on myself and not be so hard core on the tracking 24/7 . That doesn't mean I'm giving myself free reign - still gotta watch portion sizes and pay attention to what I'm eating. Just need to remind myself to stay flexible and that the unexpected doesn't mean the end of the world. I'm just trying to that happy medium works for me.

I'm down over a hundred pounds from my highest weight in 2012 and I am committed to keeping it gone! It's taking some adjustment to get use to the "new me" but for the most part, it's been all positive.
