For Myself

I need to take care of myself for myself, but I know that it impacts my three daughters.
I've worked in professional kitchens since the early 1970's. Food is a major part of my life. Being a woman in a male dominated field was a struggle back when I started. Being an older woman in a physically demanding industry is a struggle too. I enjoy the struggle. I enjoy the long hours, the heat, the noise. The food.
In my early 50's my metabolism started to slow down. Whoops.

Other Information:
The year that I turned 50 I went on my first hike. My husband is a big hiker, and I wanted something else to share with him. Since then I've been hiking to celebrate all our 'milestones' - birthdays, anniversaries, holidays. Living in up state NY, we do a lot of Adirondack hikes, but we also hike in the Shawangunks and the White Mountains of NH.

Thanks for visiting my blog and for your comments. Yes, I sure did get sleep....like as soon as granddaughter left for the day. I just could not fight my body's need for sleep off it seems. Up bright and early for the day.....I plan to take advantage of that and will get out for a walk very soon as it will be another hot one today (94 degrees yesterday!)

Hope you have a fabulous Wednesday! emoticon

Hey there! So - I was just re-reading some blog comments and realized you referenced the Mohawk Valley ... I used to live in Albany, NY. I went on my first solo trip ever in the high-peaks region around Saratoga ... disatrous trip. Lol! Sure miss that gorgeous part of the world tho - especially as I don't get that far east any more - it's mostly North or West for me these days. Enjoy the beautiful Adirondacks for me!

Thanks for the kudos on my spark page friend.....I had to update my page....got into the snacking last night...darn! it wrecked my consistency streak. It was one of those pesky hungry days that come up every once in awhile and it takes an army to manage....sigh....should've called in the calvary, lol.

Nothing to do but move on and focus on today, it's the now I can do something about. Glad you chipped away at your list....me too....but with too much procrastinatin on my end.

Have an awesome productive Monday!

Good morning friend. The meteor shower was really special to witness, wow.

Thanks for your comment on my blog. Yes, granddaughter and I are very close. When my other two grandkids were born, I worked a lot, wasn't close with my DIL and DS1, and I got to observe how close DILs mother was to the grandkids, and I envied their relationship. When I learned that DS2 and DIL were expecting, I decided I wanted to be a big part of their child's life, and offered to babysit 3 days a week. Later, because of my client work, I cut back to 2 days. No matter how busy I am, I always enjoy our time together, and she helps keep me from working all of the time. My own mom rarely would babysit, but all the grandkids loved her so...she offered them unconditional love; having a swell "cookie cupboard" didn't hurt either, lol. What one can give in way of self, one will get back many times over, I have found.

I'm finishing up my coffee and then I'm out for a walk. At least it won't be a soggy one, unlike yesterday morning's early rain shower. Enjoy your Sunday.
