For Myself

I need to take care of myself for myself, but I know that it impacts my three daughters.
I've worked in professional kitchens since the early 1970's. Food is a major part of my life. Being a woman in a male dominated field was a struggle back when I started. Being an older woman in a physically demanding industry is a struggle too. I enjoy the struggle. I enjoy the long hours, the heat, the noise. The food.
In my early 50's my metabolism started to slow down. Whoops.

Other Information:
The year that I turned 50 I went on my first hike. My husband is a big hiker, and I wanted something else to share with him. Since then I've been hiking to celebrate all our 'milestones' - birthdays, anniversaries, holidays. Living in up state NY, we do a lot of Adirondack hikes, but we also hike in the Shawangunks and the White Mountains of NH.

YES! Do take more photos! Yesterday I had looked through some old photos because my nephew had gotten a hair cut and I thought it made him look a lot like my brother when he was young so I wanted to show my sis. AND I found a few other photos that I appreciate once again very much. One was of my Grandpa and Grandma and she so sweetly wrote all kinds of info on it and before I never thought twice about all that info, but last night as I read it all I said "Thank you Grandma" because she's not with us anymore so it's nice that she thought to write it down for me even if it wasn't meaningful till much later. I also fawned over a extremely old photo of 4 generations of women and my Great Grandmother was the baby!!! And I noticed that when she was older she looked a like HER Great Grandmother! Stuff like that is so cool and back then photos were very hard to take and very rare! We are lucky that it's so easy for us to take photos now we can snap away anytime we want!

Anyway what made me realize all this was trying to find photos of me and my friend who passed away and it being very hard though we hung out a lot and were friends for 15 years, because we didn't think we looked that great we never thought to snap a photo (and thinking we will always have time to take photos at a better time but we rarely thought to) and I only have about 3 photos with her total...now that is sad...I wish I had taken photos of us with blah hair and no makeup and blah clothes. Even though we would have hated the photos at the time...I would now probably love them and think they were beautiful! Sometimes hindsight helps us see photos as not bad that we used to think were bad! LOL

Thanks for stopping by my blog. My time off has been great so far. I've found time for everything including seeing friends and family as well as time for myself. I still have some time to squeeze in another movie next week too before I go back to school. I even managed to get the dreaded cleaning done too!!

We are rounding out the marching band season. The kids will be playing at the Big House Invitational in Ann Arbor on Saturday. This is their last competition of the year. I think there are around 2000 students that will perform together for the halftime show and the invitational is after the game. Too bad Michigan won't be playing ball, my husband is a huge fan.

How are you doing? I hope all is well with you.

Have a great night!!

Hola amiga. Happy Friday eve! Thanks for the comments on my blog. Yes my work is finally paying off ;-) and no I have not signed up for any competitions yet. I did sign up for the membership so I can begin local meets. I'm told they don't begin until December. So until then, I'll continue improving.

Have a great rest of your week(end).

Cheers!
