4/17/13 UPDATE: I'm still working on this goal, but I have made progress and feel less swamped about actually doing what I know to do. I have definitely found motivation to keep at the project. My Goals:
I'd like to make changes that last.

I need to find workable foods that fit in with my family's food allergy needs.

My Program:
Right now I am working on a food repertoire and carving out time to pursue more physical activity.

4/17/14 - I am working on strength training, specifically The PACE workouts promoted by Al Sears, MD. I've also enjoyed using exercise balls along with my son. I would like to learn "chi running" so I can run without joint issues.

Personal Information:
I am from the hills of western PA where deer are abundant but jobs not so abundant. I have a child attending on-line college and a child on the cusp of high school; we have educated them both at home so far. I teach music part time and do a plethora of other necessary things full time, including supervising my intellectually disabled brother. My husband and I are completing our 23rd years of marriage.

Other Information:
We deal with multiple food allergies. As a result, my children are almost self-sufficient cooks now.

I enjoy reading - especially biographies, art, music, gardening, and too many other things to list. Best of all I like connecting with friends and family.

This Holiday Season, give yourself the gift of self-motivation:

1. Review your reasons for wanting to be healthier.

2. Think about how you felt when you began your new healthy lifestyle. You remember . . . tired, low energy, lots of aches and pains, miserable, embarrassed, etc. and pay close attention to the smallest changes in your body. Think about how far you’ve come so far.

3. Challenge yourself . . . the try some new, healthy food options; a new form of exercise; walk farther; run faster; whatever. Just make sure the challenge you set is realistic for you.

4. Set up reminders to keep yourself on track – they can be sticky notes taped to your computer monitor, automatic text messages/emails you send yourself, or anything else that will keep your goals front and center in your mind.

5. Surround yourself with others who are positive and motivated.

6. Read success stories or watch them on video.

7. Learn as much as you can about healthy lifestyles. In this case, education CAN be free! There is a ton of good info on this site or in your local library. Knowledge is POWER!

8. Just Get Moving! Once you start, you’ll want to keep going.

9. Keep a record of your progress. Seeing concrete evidence of your improvement will motivate you to do even more/better.

10. Help others when you can.

You have it in you

When you feel like quitting, that’s an opportunity to keep going. When you feel like giving up, you have it in you to step forward with renewed energy and to give more.

Giving up doesn’t accomplish anything, and it doesn’t make you feel any better. It just leaves you with disappointment and regret.

There’s a way to keep going, and you know it. There’s a way to keep going, and just imagine how great you will feel for choosing persistence.

If you’re weary, stop for a short while to rest, but don’t give up. Remind yourself of all the good reasons why you’ve chosen to move forward, and then get yourself going again.

If you wish to be free of the effort, then do what it takes to finish the effort. Make all your work count for something by bringing it to a successful conclusion.

The next step is right in front of you, and you have it in you to take that step. Keep going, fulfill your best possibilities, and you’ll always be thankful for your choice to do so.
