Maintaining a new-found healthy lifestyle.

Hi! I'm Jenn and I live in the Dallas, Texas area with my husband and 5-year-old daughter.

I used to be resentful that some people could eat whatever they want and not gain weight. Why not me? I now realize that just because you CAN eat whatever you want and not gain weight doesn't mean that you SHOULD.

I'm using SparkPeople because I love that I can track food and exercise. It is amazing how "good" I thought I was being before writing it all down. Accountability ...

UPDATE - January 2011 - well, I guess I am human. I've slipped quite far in this journey, and feel like I am back to square one. Hopefully I can get back the motivation I once had to eat and be healthy!

My Goals:
My main goal is to learn to eat and use food for the purpose for which it is intended -- to fuel my body! No more reaching for food as a substitute for anything.

Short-term goal and reward: getting down to 130 pounds. I'm hoping this will be my upper limit going forward. And when I finally see that 130 on the scale, I'm finally going to get those 7 jeans!

I also want to build muscle tone to stave off osteoperosis, which runs in my family.

Finally, I love how much energy I have when exercising regularly, so I want to remember and crave that feeling for the rest of my life.

Halloween Goals:

BREAK THROUGH THIS PLATEAU!!

Rededicate myself to eating better and exercising, even lightly, every day.

My Program:
Modified Strength Training twice a week.

HIIT training once a week.

Light Cardio in the mornings 3 days a week.

Trying to keep carbs fewer than 100 grams per day, and eating starchy carbs at only one meal. I'm also trying to keep my fat intake at around 30% of my calories, with less than 20 g of saturated fat a day. The remaining calories are all protein!

Other Information:
My favorite, favorite band is Barenaked Ladies.

I hope to someday write books that children and young adults will choose to read.

OK I'll add you in a moment! It's a "secret" group so that no one can see you join or post in it - it's a small-ish group of mostly cruisers (I think one fan that isn't cruising but is trying to lose weight) . Can't wait to be back on the boat again! :)

Hello! Yes trying to keep on track so I want to see if they've added any new videos for this one. I really like their strength videos because it helps me to SEE her doing the moves vs just reading them and trying to figure it out.

And Kristen actually started a group on FB this month or I guess last month now (in Dec) - just a little challenge - extra encouragement as we head into the cruise. Do you want to add you to that too? It'll helped me get back on the strength exercise train - I was letting that slack a bit (ok a lot) this year :)

hee hee .. yes ... Vancouver is a pretty fantastic city! I am one of the few people who is lucky enough to have been born and raised here. I have lived abroad but always come back to Vancouver since it's 'home'. A nice 18 (64) degrees here today ... a little warmer would be nice though so I could lay on the beach!!

I am starting to enjoy bootcamp myself ... I was a little worried at first that it was a wee easy but found if I do the videos 2 or 3 times then I feel it.

Just curious ... do you have work available for a banker who doesn't want to work full time?? lol ... I am so on that boat with you!!!

Have an excellent weekend Jenn!

Hi Jenn! How's bootcamp going? How are you finding the work outs? I actually haven't done yesterday or today's yet. Gonna get on that in a bit. I actually fell asleep on the sofa after putting dd to bed last night and didn't wake up unitl morning so completely missed last night's workout. It's that TOM and of course my body would rather sleep and eat than do anything!!! grrr ... Sometimes being a girl gets in the way!

How were your interviews today? Are you looking for new work?

Hope you're having a lovely, warm Dallas evening!! ~ Jodi

Good Morning Jenn & thanks for the welcome!! I am excited to start BootCamp too! I am the type who needs but easily becomes bored with routine so I signed up for BootCamp to shake it up a little!

I think the "shaking it up a little" is one of the reasons for the 5 lb loss this week. I recently looked up my BMR (basal metabolic rate) and found what amount of calories I need to burn to lose 1 lb/per week and I adjusted my eating and exercise to encompass that. I now try to keep to 1500 cal/day and ensure that I burn at least 500 cal/day in exercise BUT I also substituted my regular evening elliptical work out a couple of days this week for doing something else. I found some great workouts on youtube by Jillian Michaels from The Biggest Loser and did a couple of those, jumped rope in my front yard, etc BUT I also avoided my usual Friday night wine and went for a good bike ride with my daughter instead! So ... I think the combination of all of that could be the reason for the 5 lbs! I think it was just a matter of making my body work in a different way than it had become accustom. Either that or I just got lucky ... should have bought a Lottery ticket too! : )

I hope we can motivate each other to get to our goals also!! Here's to kicking some butt and wearing swimsuits!!

emoticon ~ Jodi
