Progress not Perfection!!

Our society places so much emphasis on perfection. Looking perfect, having the perfect body, acting perfect. And that is what it is - and act. I have spent too much time trying to live up to and unattainable ideal. I am on this healthy living journey for 2 reasons- to be healthy and to live! I am making progress in each of those things with every bite I take and every exercise I do. I have 5 beautiful children that I want to set an example for. I want them to know they don't have to be ...
I want them to know they don't have to be perfect to be loved. I want them to learn to be healthy and LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST!!!

I have struggled with my weight and body image for as long as I can remember. I remember being called names like "tubby" and "sumo wrestler" growing up. I have had 4 children gaining about 50 lbs with each child by believing "I could eat whatever I wanted because I was pregnant." Each time I was able to lose the weight before becoming pregnant with the next child.

I recently gave birth to our 5th child. Before becoming pregnant I was at my goal weight and lowest adult weight. Being pregnant after we thought we were done was a mental challenge for me. So I again fell for the pregnancy lie that "You can eat whatever you want when pregnant." I lost motivation and quit exercising, too. So now I am back at the beginning of my healthy living journey with plenty of weight to lose and bad habits to overcome with good habits. But I will be successful! I have done it 4 other times and I know I will do it again! One step at a time!!

I was a part of the Biggest Loser Challenge here on Sparkpeople for rounds 20- 25. I had great success with all the support, accountability and challenges of BLC. I am looking forward to returning to BLC and to my healthy living journey.

Nothing is impossible with God . Luke 1:37

God's strength is made perfect in my weakness! 2 Corinthians 12:9

"God, I recognize that I am made for more than the vicious cycle of being ruled by food, body image, and comparing myself to others. I am thankful that You made my body unique in ways that I can serve You and in ways that turn my reliance upon You. I need to eat to live, not live to eat. So I keep asking for Your wisdom to know what to eat and Your indwelling power to walk away from things and thoughts that are not beneficial for me."
"Our taste buds crave many things to satisfy, but only persevering with God will make us truly full."
Lysa TerKeurst - Made to Crave

"When you get in a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hold on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and the time that the tide will turn."
- Harriet Beecher Stowe

Hi Elsa! I meant to write back to you sooner. Your baby is so adorable! You are so blessed with such a lovely family. I have to say, your enthusiasm is inspiring to me! I'm having a hard time with discipline as well; unfortunately, I just don't have time for BLC anymore with working at home and taking care of a toddler. I have also had a rough year with health problems, so for now, I'm just focusing on the day to day. Clark is doing well, and is 19 months old now! Crazy! Justin is also well. After the BLC he went on to lose even more--46 pounds down total. I wish I could say the same, but my health has caused me weight issues. Thank you for checking in on me! I hope all is well with you and that you find great success with the next BLC!!! emoticon

Hi, Elsa! I am so glad that I was looking through my Friend Feed and saw posts about you. Congrats on your new baby. I took the time to look through your pictures - I cannot believe I had never done that! What a lovely family you have...and such precious ages. I miss those days so much with my now 20-somethings.

I see you registered for BLC! Woohoo! That would be great if you were a Determined Desert Tortoise with us....
