Until I started exercising in the morning, I do not remember the last time I actually watched a sunrise. This is what gets me up when the alarm first goes off! It is such an energizing way to start the day.

It's about time!

A couple years ago, I dropped the "baby weight" (my son is almost ten now, but I'm still milking that excuse for all it's worth!) from 210 pounds to about 150ish. That was when my gallbladder went berserk, I ended up in two emergency surgeries to remove it and eliminate a stone that was blocking the duct from my liver, and I learned that losing weight too quickly is nearly as dangerous as being too heavy to begin with, because the gallbladder helps break down burned fat.

It was a bit scary, and I not only threw the brakes on, I reversed a bit and regained 15 pounds. But like all things, we eventually need to hike our big kid pants up and get back on the train because the extra 40 pounds I'm still hauling around is not only keeping me from the cute clothes I'd like to get into, but it also makes chasing my son around the back yard a tougher challenge. I want to watch him get older, and the only way to do that is to be the healthiest me I can be!

To that end...I quit smoking as of 9/12/12. Woo! It was not and still is not easy, but it was not part of a healthy lifestyle.

To replace that "crave," I've added exercise. In prior attempts, food was always the easy part, and exercise was a big annoyance, so I decided to start with the tough stuff, and surprise! And all the advice that never made sense before ("find something you enjoy and do it!" or "you do not gripe about needing to brush your teeth, so view exercise as something equally important to a healthy body and do it without complaint")...it all suddenly made sense. I never had "me" time, but I quickly learned I was sleeping through that perfect window of opportunity from 5:45AM-6:30AM; the family does not make extra demands when they're snoozing, so sunrise is my time...and it's gorgeous.
