Despite the obstacles, how do I turn desire into action and action into results?

I hate to exercise..... there I said it. I do. I link it back to H.S., run days where after run days I would cough from asthma for 2 days after running before my lungs would relax. I know I need to exercise, but I don't like it. Add that to the fact that I am a full day Kindergarten teacher with nearly 30 students and no aide and plenty of over protective parents, married to a workaholic, have a 9 year old who goes to Karate 2 nights per week and basketball 1 nights per week plus homework ...

I know I need to exercise, but I don't like it. Add that to the fact that I am a full day Kindergarten teacher with nearly 30 students and no aide and plenty of over protective parents, married to a workaholic, have a 9 year old who goes to Karate 2 nights per week and basketball 1 nights per week plus homework M-Th, teacher stuff to do, housework and meals to prep, shopping & bills to pay. I don't have time to exercise.

My reality though, that I don't like to think about is this..... I am 38 years old, I am 52 pounds over the top number of my healthy weight range and have been taking meds for high blood pressure for a little over a year now. I have scoliosis and arthritis in my hips along with spasdic muscles. I am sleep deprived. I bought a Body Media Link, I wear it faithfully. I track my sleep with it mostly. In the 6 months that I have had it, I get only 4-5 hours of sleep during a 7-8 hour period of time lying down. I am always tired. These conditions challenge any resolve that I have to exercise, even when I have the mental discipline to tell myself "to bad if you don't like it, do it anyways, its good for you!" When I exercise muscles get so tight that it pulls my back out of alignment and sometimes it hurts to stand, turn my head, walk, bend.... hell one time I had to ask a kindergarten student to tie my shoe. I go to the chiropractor once a week or once every other week as my condition permits. When I started about 4 years ago, I went 3x per week. So things are improving slowly.

Bottomline, I need to get healthy habits going. I need to make permanent changes to my life style. I need to lose some weight. I need to get my BP down and under control and get off the meds. I need to reduce my stress and get more sleep.

My Goals:
1. Find an exercise that won't bore me or put me in traction and do it 2x per week, increase it as time and my body allow.

2. Track what I eat in my tracker.

3. Figure out how I can get my body sleeping 6-8 hours each night.

Hi, I am also in the Partnership Accountability to the Finish Line team (that is a lot to type!), just signed up and need a partner. I don't know if you have one yet or are still looking but maybe we could bounce ideas off each other. I am older but my mind never agreed with my body! Even if you decide not to be my partner, I hope we can become friends here at Sparks.

Hi!
Welcome to the Partnership Accountability to the Finish Line team! We are happy to have you with our team. Please feel free to introduce yourself to the team, if you have not already done so. Be sure to read the thread: Click Here: To help find a partner and learn what to do next". It will help you find someone who has similar goals, likes, dislikes, or someone close to your age if you prefer. You will both be able to support, encourage, and just be there for each other, while on your way in reaching your goals.

If you need help finding someone or help of any kind, please let me know, as I am here to help you in anyway I can. Hope you enjoy and are able to achieve your goals on this team or any others you might join.

Have a great day!!

emoticon hi there!
thank you for leaving advice in my blog....on your very first day at SP emoticon

yes, I'll have to pay closer attention to the menu in future. I'll be asking for steamed vegetables too.

Since you don't like exercise, why not google 'walk away the pounds 3 miles' and bookmark the video into your browser. There are 2 DVDs so go for the one where the team is wearing wide, black waistbands with elastic attachments for arm exercises. It's a fun video and hardly feels like exercise at all, except that I can't yet keep pace. You'll love it! Let me know how you get on with it!

Have made you a friend to keep in touch with you. emoticon
