The Fabulous and Frustrating 40s

In July 2008, I joined sparkpeople because I had hit my highest weight ever. Daily exercise is part of my life now, but I still have a lot of work to do on the eating side. The 40s are awesome in so many ways, but the big downside is that the weight is harder and harder to take off. I'm happy that I've gotten a lot healthier, but I still have a lot of work to do!

Like my doc said: most people would rather take a pill.

I do NOT want to! Not when it means just making some easy choices. I mean, do I mess humus? YES And I've taken a few bites but got so sick (once you're off stuff that messes with you, you have a large reaction) that it'll keep me off for a goodly long while.

As they told me. Every member of my family is on cholesterol lowering meds (and about middle age, needs BP meds, too).

I'm the only one who doesn't eat whole grains and legumes (and dairy). They do get some veg but they follow the normal advice.

Agreed. YOU are very lucky that it's not a problem. *I* am not. CAD is in my family. All the doctors and nurses say that I'm a time bomb, 'it'll catch you in the end.'

The only one who stepped forward with the fix was that GP and I'm so thankful for her! It may catch me in the end but having a total (though that's not the whole story) of 400 and the HDL of like 10? All those decades went 'whoosh' away when I stopped eating the stuff that poisons those of us who can't handle it.

I'll put this out there: I can eat the SHT out of salt. Doesn't phase me. Oddly, I don't really want it unless I crave it but I can eat it and it has zero effect. Years of proving that's so for me.

Every body is different but if you (me) have a known problem, it's in your family and somebody offers something different -- even so radically different from what everybody says? What's to lose when trying? I lost dropping dead of CAD in my 40s. I'll take it!!

:)

I mean SERIOUSLY. You cannot understand how thankful I am and all it is means eating MEAT and giving up legumes and grains (which I miss but COME ON!!!!)

Thanks for clarifying! It's confusing to me but I've never done any martial arts.
