I have also gotten a lot of help using the exercises in Feeling Good and books by Albert Ellis and Aaron T. Beck.
Many people swear by Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT-much info free on the web).
I"ll say for myself for a long time nothing was as easy and convenient as food, but it became more painful to overeat than to accept some of the discomfort of my feelings.
