Where'd She Go?

1/30/11 - I've been away quite a while but, now that I have been a non-smoker for 1 year, 8 months, and since my thyroid issue has stabilized a bit, I feel ready to go again. It helped that the nutritionist I saw recently pointed out that my calorie intake was too low. I don't know if upping it will help me lose weight faster, but I sure feel better.

11/16/09- I've been pretty slim most of my life, but after recently quitting smoking (again)(6 months ago), and being diagnosed with hypothyroidism, and ending a long relationship, and consoling myself with Haagen Daz, I've gained 25 pounds and I want the old me back only better (stronger). I keep thinking about a quote from Theodore Isaac Rubin, "Involvement precedes interest". It's true for me and I'm starting to get more involved and, consequently, more interested in doing what I need to do to get where I want to go. Yea!

My Goals:
I want to run a 5K and lose 25 pounds and get stronger.

My Program:
I plan to start with 1.5 miles 5 days a week on the treadmill or elliptical trainer (which I've already started) and then add free weights. I plan to rely on the "Flat Belly Workout" DVD (which has a nice aerobic warm-up and "multi-tasking" weighted exercises). This will be good for a start - "small steps" I'm beginning to understand the concept of starting small.

Other Information:
I'm beginning to see that results-driven workouts may not be for me (even though I want to achieve those results in the long run). I think the small steps concept is the one that will entice me to stay the course. I want to concentrate on exercising for the fun of it and for feeling better.

Thanks for your kind words on my blog! It was so hard at times to be positive when my weight loss was stalled, but I kept trying and today I am a whole new woman. Keep working toward your goal--It may take awhile, but you will get there

Hi, Leenie, guess what! I entered a 5K next Saturday, right here in Folsom! The girl next door who got bastric bypass surgery is doing all kinds of new stuff and she asked on Facebook if anyone wanted to join her...out of all her young friends, no one could or would, so it's going to be her and me! I'm so excited...I've been really busy with Malia and the baby so I haven't been walking per se every day, but I've been sore :). Going to start my 2 miles again tomorrow and do it every day...my heel is doing OK...I know I can do it! One thing off my bucket list :) Hope you are doing well and have a wonderful Mother's Day...I bought a bunch of food for a bbque and am heading over to the new family's house for dinner...going to walk and then garden so I'll get my exercise in! The new "foodplan" is going great...went to whole foods with Malia and bought a bunch of stuff for the "condictive diet" including coconut oil for sauteing, unsweetened coconut milk (it's yummy in protein shakes and only 60 cals a cup) and coconut milk coffee creamer (a "treat" :). I've been using stevia to sweeten my tea and it is so good...doesn't spike your blood sugar...I have NO sugar cravings...and NO chip cravings...a miracle! My weight is holding steady, but once I start exercising again I hope it starts coming off...Hugs, Bonnie emoticon

Happy Easter, Leenie! I just read your "status"...good for you to take on the Boot Camp! I've been sick and finally went to the doctor and got meds for a sinus infection...the fact that it seems I've been fighting a "cold" ever since Christmas got really old! I think I told you this already...don't know...the meds have given me insomnia and another side effect is ANOREXIA ;) I have hardly any appetite and have been taking advantage of it, but haven't been exercising because of being so tired from not sleeping! I finish the pills on Wednesday...looking forward to it!

I hope you have a good Easter...my daughter's bridal shower went really well, 21 people and my sister and nieces came from Redlands...OK, I remember that I told you this already, too. I am a little spacey!

Making potato salad for Easter and going over to Malia's friend's mom's house (she came to the shower). I thought it was really nice that she included me in her plans...I can do it and have done it, but would rather NOT be alone on a holiday...found a church I was going to check out, but I'll do that next week.

I have NINETY DAYS today smokefree!
Hugs,
Bonnie
