I've decided not to like anything that doesn't like me back most especially carbs. from today on I am on a carbs. as tolerated attitude. The make me fat they spike my sugar,subsequently they are not my friend so from now on we exist in the world together but I deal with the as little as possible kind of like my ex-husband. My husband and I were on the road for 4 days last month. Denny's has a great salad with grilled chicken, apples, craisins and a few pecans (sugar coated)--delicious salad and a very filling meal. McDonald's has a grilled chicken caesar salad that's also very good. I don't care for dressing, which is where most of the calories come from. I believe several other fast food chains have salads with good fresh veggies and grilled chicken. Put the focus on visiting and not with the food so much. We also had dinner with our nephew and family at their home one night. They like to eat lots of veggies, so that was good and the meat was roast beef--I just took one slice and made out ok. You might want to eat an apple or some other filling fruit or veggie about an hour before mealtime if they're having something that's not very healthy. But remember, it's temporary and we're working on a LIFESTYLE, not a diet. There will always be family events and road trips. We need to learn ways of adapting our own behavior to include as much as we can of the social part of it without totally going off our own plan. And if you do go above calorie and carb count for those few days, forgive yourself and get right back at it as soon as you return home. You might also suggest a walk after dinner to enjoy the fall air. At least it can help work off some of those calories. 1357 days ago
