I BELIEVE IT this time!

I've always loved fitness, not afraid of the gym - but large portion sizes kept me from being thin!

It's time for me to be serious in mind, body, and spirit about maintaining consistency toward healthy living. For some reason I've always justified my larger food portions because I work out 4-6 days per week... but guess what? That doesn't work, and I've known it doesn't work, but I didn't take serious enough steps to change the situation. I know all the right foods to eat, and ...

I know all the right foods to eat, and am better at selecting healthy choices than resorting to fast food - I just eat too much of a good thing. In the past I've told myself how badly I want to look a certain way, be a certain size, portray a certain impression to others, but deep down I must not have believed I could do it, because I never achieved what I had set out to do. This is the one area of my life that I feel I've let myself down; I deserve better and I'm not going to take it anymore!

I BELIEVE IT THIS TIME!!! And Spark People will help me meet my goals - no doubt!

Update: 1/2/2010 - Yay - I stayed Sparkin' the entire year in 2009. This program ROCKS! I did not fall off the wagon and have to start over, but I did set my foot down a little in December and let the wagon drag. However, I'm fully focused again and am working hard toward meeting my goals!!!

Update: 4/18/09 - So far I've been somewhat successful, losing about 5 lbs per month, which is good for me, because my body doesn't seem to like fast weight loss. However, I'm at the point where I normally get comfortable with how my clothes feel and the comments people make, and I get stuck. I can't allow this to happen this time - I must break through this period without self-sabotage. Keep tracking food, keep exercising 5-6 days per week, and rotate your calories!!! I CAN DO THIS!

This quote by celebrity trainer Gregg Plitt made an impact on me, so I need to re-read it whenever I feel discouraged:

Nothing in life worthwhile will ever come easy … you have to work for everything that is respected in life … being in shape is no different. It takes dedication, sacrifice, work ethic, and time … you have to be patient. My philosophy is to "fall in love with the workout and not the results of the workout".

My Goals:
Reach my ideal size/weight. Met halfway to goal May 2009, and then I got complacent and slowed too much. I ate more sweets than fruit, decreased my water, and snacked on too many carbs. I know what I did, and know how to fix it!

My desire is to motivate, inspire, and provide advice when others want it - not just when I feel it's warranted.

My Program:
Nutrition:
Make healthy meals, limit going out to 1x per week for lunch & 1x per week for dinner.
Drink at least 64 oz water daily. Multivitamin daily.

Fitness:
Cardio at least 5 days per week. Currently I do Tue, Thu, Sat Hip-Hop Dance - 60min @ gym; Firm Cardio, walk, or swim the other days. Strength train 2-3 days. Love Jillian Michaels, The Firm, and Oxygen mag workouts; I also use resistance bands and basic calisthenics.

Vary routines to keep working out exciting and fresh.

Participate in at least 3 teams on SP daily.

Thanks for the spark goodie. I think what SEKSUNSHINE was trying to say is that some people wish and dream for the future when they can be doing those things now, but it came across harsh. There is a time limit and if you are employing your time to the limit ( a lot of peope don't, she was pushing the envelope here, that is good, then it is up to you to take it or leave it and know yourself and what you can do) you do make choices about what you need to do first and what you want to do with the time left over. I don't know you or your life, but I was impressed that you had as an adult taken lessons and participated with the kids in recitals, I thought that was too cool and wanted to recognize that.

I wish more Sparkers would use the star system. Simple yet effective. Please share that again in a blog.
