2014... ___Keeping myself ___ ___healthy & happy!___

I've always known the equation for good health and maintaining a healthy weight: adequate exercise + proper nutrition.
Recently I've found out that the equation is actually lop sided... VERY lop sided!
...exercise (x 20%) and nutrition (x 80%)!!!
For the past 10 years, I've been focussing the majority of my time and energy on the exercise 20% and IGNORING the fact that it's the nutrition 80% that requires WAY MORE discipline for weight management!!!

I strive to be the healthiest 100% of ME that I can be!!!

My name is Jessica and I'm 33 years old.
My day job keeps me in a desk all day but I'm also a part time fitness instructor... being active is my passion in life!!! I teach classes like CardioKick, Breathe/yoga, REVS/spin and FORCE/weights. In my spare time, I enjoy rollerblading, mountain biking, hiking, cross-country skiing and snowboarding (to name a few).

My heaviest weight (I started Sparking on April 7th, 2008) was 155lbs & my inital goal weight was 140lbs. (Due to "my build" and that I am a fitness instructor, I've never thought I could be *extra small*, I just wanted to lose the love handles and back fat... to look like the FITGIRL that I really AM!!!)

In the beginning, I was ONLY on Spark to track my calories and to learn some ways to curb my sweet tooth!!! (I knew I couldn't do this alone, so I also sought the advice of a nutritionist who created a diet plan for me to follow!) Now, I'm a firm believer that everyone should have a nutritionist in their life! She has literally changed my life and the direction it was taking! I give her alot of credit for my current transformation and lifestyle changes!!!

Currently (as of March 11th, 2009), I have lost 30 pounds and LOVE Sparking daily! I have met some AMAZING friends through the Spark community and am forever blessed by all the support and encouragement I have received here!

*taking a hiatus from logging my weight here weekly. This journey is NO LONGER about weight loss to me!
I know I will gain weight back again after the competition (since you can't be that restrictive and expect to build muscle!) so I will keep track of my weight fluctuations on my own and blog about it as I see fit. I have most definitely surpassed my "dream" goal weight already!
However, I know that when I do compete in my NEXT show, I intend to have much more muscle definiton in my arms and legs!!! So if that means I lean out even more then I did this time around, BONUS!

*** July 25th - '24 Hours of Adrenaline'
mountain bike relay race in Canmore, AB, Canada.

*** October 17th, 2009 - FAME ALBERTA Championships!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and offering some advice. I have been going slow for so long with my weight lifting that it is definitely time for me to kick-it-up a notch :) I am really enjoying the more intense workouts - hopefully the results will start showing soon :)

Your comment was so incredibly sweet and encouraging, Jess. Thank you! I think it's a case of even despite the less epic times for me, I never, and am working hard to never again, give up. For me, the fuzz is more a case of working harder mentally to stay focused than any other time in the past ten months. It means a lot to hear you say that in your eyes I haven't stopped burning once. Truly means a lot. :D

lol, I did raise my arms like that, just to smack the finishing line banner though. :D I was TIRED, lol! My half marathon is Sunday May 4th, so just three weeks! :O My knee was absolutely stellar during the 10k, so I don't think it will be a problem. I think maybe the weeks of being sick was probably a good thing in that sense - it forced me to be inactive and let it heal.

THANKS for your uplifting comments. I loved my outfit... It felt...IMO SO ZUMBA.
In my mind I look great...but when you see a picture sometimes it makes you feel "bigger". It was a TMO week anyway.

I actually got ALOT of positive attention from wearing it. In fact, a man paid for all my stuff in a store! Gave me his phone number... One of the dudes at the zumbathon hugged me. Did everything he could to help me get my ipod to work. He even went online and found each song and made a playlist. teehehehe...

At this point INSIDE I don't feel I perform consistently.
There is a feeling I am looking for...not sure if I am putting it into the right words. Not saying I feel bad...I want the same satisfaction with each routine consistently. Not from participants...a feeling INSIDE.

I find most instructor have a style. Each routine is performed in a similar way.
In some cases their music matches the style throughout.

OVERALL I had fun. YOUR RIGHT...it was really good experience.
Each time I learn something new about myself and zumba instructor/tion.
