Hi, my name is Faith and I am 58 years old. I live in northeastern Illinois. I have been overweight for most of my adult life. I have lost and regained weight many times throughout the years. I am glad that I found SparkPeople.com and eventually joined on October 23rd 2009. There is an unbelievable amount of information and tools available plus lots of wonderful people to receive support from and to give support to. I started on my final Journey to Health and Weight Loss on August 6th 2009 weighing 291 pounds. In January of 2008 I weighted 299 and my Cardiologist recommended me to lose weight and walk for 30 minutes a day. When I returned to see her one year later in January 2009 I had lost 20 pounds (weighed 279 pounds) and she was happy with my accomplishment. Unfortunately I proceeded to gain over half it back by August 2009. I then got angry with myself and decided that this was it and I set a goal to weigh 250 pounds by the end of the year. On December 11th I met that goal ahead of time losing 41.6 pounds by December 11th.

I have been struggling with my weight for as long as I can remember. I want to lose weight and become healthy. I control my cholesterol and blood pressure with medications. Diabetes run in my family and I do not want to add that to my medical problems. I want to lose weight and to get off my medications. I need to include regular exercise into my daily plan. For now I will be walking on a treadmill daily and doing strength training DVD's three days a week.

Because of knee problems I started walking for only 5 minutes a day (August 2009). Before this journey I could hardly walk up the basement stairs. I can't believe the difference...I now move quickly and easily up those basement stairs. I started wearing a pedometer in mid October 2009 and am now doing between 6,500 and 11,000 steps per day. Plus I started doing strength training using DVD's three times a week in mid December 2009.

I have dieted many times throughout my 58 years of live. My heaviest weight was around 330 pounds. I can't even remember when I was under 200 pounds. Something has changed now and I know that this is the last time. I am not on a diet....I have changed my eating and exercise plan for life. As they say in SparkPeople...I have made a lifestyle change!

I don't ever want to go back to where I came from...I'm moving forward! If I can do this so can you...so come on and join me on the journey to health and weight loss!!!

UPDATE: January 27, 2009 - Today I had my yearly visit to the cardiologist...she was thrilled with my weight loss & fitness progress!

Make it a priority in 2010 to purchase yourself a copy of the SparkPeople book..."The Spark"! You might not be aware of the fact that "The Spark" is also available in audiobook format with Chris Downie reading it!

My Goals:
My goal is to get healthy and lose weight.

I am using software to log my daily food and exercise information. I am also using the SparkPeople website for the wealth of information, tools and support.

Hello, Thank you for your comment on my feed action about missing the 20 points again. I'm really excited you had a good report from your cardio doctor. Had all of this work helped your heart to be stronger? This morning was not a good morning. I had a doctor's appointment. I got up late and had to have breakfast and my bath over by 10:15. I forgot to bandage my toe, but a nurse came and did it for me. I was ready to go by 10:00 and waited. The driver showed up 15 minutes before my doctor's appointment. The office is 45 minutes away in Bolivar, Missouri. I still haven't received the yarn to start the helmet liners. I also found a pattern for a crocheted or knitted scarf for the soldiers. Write to me when you have the time.

I am out and about visiting dear Spark Friends to see how you are coming along with your goals. I also wanted to remind you that it is National Heart Month and so...Happy Heart Month...it's February. We have 28 days to do something fabulous, so we have to stay true to our goals during this short month. I believe we can!
