I am a retired secretary. I joined Sparks to help me lose weight. I have recently been diagnosed with high blood pressure, diabetes and high chlostorol. I have been trying to ensure I exercise every day and follow a better eating program.

I have been part of Sparks People for a year now. I have not reached my goal as I had wanted, but I have lost weight and I plan to continue with Sparks until I reach my goal and beyond. I love Sparks People.

My Goals:
My goal is to lose about 100 pounds, become more flexible, gain balance and become healthier.

My Program:
I am determined that I am going to reach my goal. I have begun a walking program, and I have purchased a pedometer that works. I am aiming to walk 10,000 steps a day or more and to perform strength training exercises at least 3 times a week. I will eat healthier and ensure I track my fitness and nutrition each day so that I can keep track of how I am doing.

My name is Darlene I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Other Information:
I am a christian and I enjoy volunteering at my church. My faith in God has helped to get where I am today, and I know that with His help I can reach my goals. My husband and I have 7 children (all boys), and 14 grandchildren. My husband passed away in September, 2011.

I have been an avid reader since I was 4 years old. In my spare time I love to read mysteries and do crossword and suduku puzzles. I also enjoy reading christian books by Joyce Meyers, Stormie O'Martian, and others.

Spring of Life

When winter days give in to spring
and trees begin to bud
I can see all God handiwork
from the grass to the stars above
The joy and warmth the daylight brings
as the birds sing songs of praise
for they are also happy
for the earth that God hath made
and when the coolness of the evening comes
and the dusk gives way to night
we close our eyes and say dear Lord
thank you for the beauty of life.
