I am WORTH the Investment!

I'm in it for the long haul. Less worried about the number on the scale than I am with the way my clothes fit....and the number of miles I can run. Less worried about body inches than body image....because if I don't love ME right here, right now, then losing 5 pounds won't be fixing what's really wrong in my life!

Fitness is important. A healthy diet is important. But most important to me is equilibrium. I need a sustainable lifestyle that doesn't leave me feeling deprived! ...

Fitness is important. A healthy diet is important. But most important to me is equilibrium. I need a sustainable lifestyle that doesn't leave me feeling deprived! While I really enjoy active outdoorswomaning - running, biking, hiking, kayaking, climbing, etc. - I also enjoy a glass of wine in the evenings, dining out with friends without feeling guilty over the calories...and let's face it, at certain times of the month, chocolate is necessary.

This September felt like coming full circle. I joined SP under a different name in late 2008/early 2009, after I quit smoking for the first time (for roughly 15 months). I quit again (finally!) September 2013. And again found myself gaining weight - up to about 180. I've already started making some great progress - while I still have about 20 pounds to lose to reach my goal weight, I'm already down almost 10 pounds...and, more importantly, I've lost lots of inches and gained a lot more strength and stamina!

My present to myself, for my 6-month quit anniversary, was to register for the Indy 500 Festival Mini-Marathon - my first half marathon! I ran in on May 3...and finished in 2:33:40 (my goal time was 2 1/2 hours).

A little more about me: I spent about six years working for an environmental non-profit in Indiana before beginning my masters degree Sept. 2014 at the University of Wisconsin. I'm an amateur chef and a total foodie; I'm training for my second half marathon, coming this November; I bike the 8 miles to campus 2-3 days every week, joined an outdoor club where I'm learning to rock climb and whitewater/sea/lake kayak (and hopefully roll...); and I'm a little bit obsessed with taking pictures of my cat, Miss Kitty. It's not my fault. She's adorable :P

Current Status:
FRENCHIFAL is heading back to Devil Lake tomorrow, for maybe the last outdoor climb of the season. Then backpacking in Door County Halloween weekend, and I'm an indoor kitty once again... :(

Hey there, thanks for the ad. I always seem to ad people seconds before I have to shut down my computer!! My daughter goes to U W Platteville, so I'm always eyeballing trails to either run or bike when I'm between Madison and Platteville! Guess for now I'm gonna live my adventures through your pictures!!
