No time to waste!
Hello everyone, My name is Hope, I'm a pre medical student, and I am taking action of my health! I am doing great school-wise, but I won't get into med school being obese (nor do I). As of today (2/3/2013), I have approximately 19 months to lose weight before medical school interviews start (which will set me around 9/1/2014). I have literally waited until the last minute, I can be terrible with procrastination! I'm very friendly and encouraging, and actually know quite a bit about exercise, nutrition, wellness, and the like. This is either due to my academics and classes I've taken, or research out of personal interest. My goal is to treat weight-loss as I treat school. Not necessarily perfecting things, but striving for excellence. I can no longer push this back, or half-ass it anymore. My plan is simple, and I think I will find it effective. I'm going to start by eating half of what I eat now. The average American eats about 3600 calories a day. I'm not only larger than the average American, but I know I eat about 3500-4000 calories on any given day. Cut that in half and you get 1750-2000 calories a day, which is plenty of food to still keep me happy, while also maintaining my metabolic functions. Not only that, I can enjoy the foods I like without all of the traditional restrictions. Personally, my food choices aren't terrible. They could be better, but they're decently healthful. However, I am the way I am because of portion distortion! This is why I feel eating half will be good for me, personally. I want to accompany this with 2 hours of cardio a week and 30 minutes of strength training (I would do more of both, but that's a good start for now). Also, I will be drinking more water (I will need to build up to 8 glasses a day; for now I'll keep a goal of at least 4)....As I progress, I will make better food choices, etc, etc. Where I am now: SW: 264.4 (2/3/2013) GW1: 248 by 4/25/2013 GW2: 230 by 7/26/2013 (6 month follow-up with my doc) I also have insulin resistance, which I hope to reverse with weight loss.

Personal Information:
I am originally from NY, but now reside in AZ. I will be 20 years old in less than a month. I am a pre-med student at the state university in hopes of becoming a physician. I also do clinical research in psychophysiology and will be volunteering at a local hospital soon. My other interests include spending time with family, and church (christian orthodox). I hope to pick up a physical hobby-perhaps racquetball.
Other Information:
I mostly enjoy watching detective shows such as Law & Order: SVU, Criminal Minds, and NCIS. Although, I do watch other dramas such as Suits. My favorite movie is A Bronx Tale, favorite music genre is country, and my favorite books are written by Mitch Albom.
