Hi. My name is Gretchen. I am a 44 year-old stay-at-home mom. I have a 14 year-old son, who is just entering high school, a little 1 1/2 year-old girl, and a wonderful husband who works and supports me in being a stay-at-home mom. I am very lucky :) I have a wonderful little family.

I love this site and have continuously used it as a motivational tool for the last 6 years. I love to eat! and it is such a bummer that I can't be one of those stick figures that can eat as much as they want without gaining an ounce. I want to be one of those people in my next life, if there is one :) However, I am not as of yet, and I am always trying to stay healthy and on track with my weight. With each pregnancy, I gained 60 pounds, and my body always wants to go back to that higher weight when I decide to eat whatever I want.

Exercise and eating healthy are very easy for me when I decide to be strict with my daily routine. But when holidays or excuses come around to eat, I often fall off the wagon and stay off for quite some time, only to "start over" again and try to get back to where I was. I am a sugar/junk food addict, and it is hard because unlike other addictions, you can't stop food cold turkey. All of the processed junk food is everywhere and it is hard to ask you family to stop eating it. So, I just have to stick to my own routine and only put what I think is going to make me feel good/healthy into my body.

I am doing well now, and have lost the 60 + pounds that I had gained with my last pregnancy. I fill very healthy and fit and am at the point where I need to maintain my healthy lifestyle. This is the hardest part! But I love feeling healthy and hate feeling sluggish with no energy. So, I will continue to stay on track every day. I love this site, and will just continue to use spark people to keep me motivated each morning. The best way for me to stay motivated is to sit down with my morning caffeine and to go to sites like this to review healthy recipes and new exercises.

Good luck to everyone in reaching their goals! It is now my goal to keep exercise and eating healthy in check so I can explore some new goals in my life. I want more goals in life than just losing weight and feeling good. I want to do more in life than that. I have a wonderful family to enjoy each day, and worrying about what I eat and what I am going to do for a workout is something I just want to go away. I want to enjoy life a bit more and focus on the things that are so important.

And food is not one of them :)

My Goals:
To change my mindset about food. To only eat what is healthy for my body.

Drink more water

Pass healthy eating and exercise on to my son and daughter.

To explore some new goals that do not involve losing weight.

My Program:
Sticking to 1200-1500 calories daily, with a cheat day here and there.

Working out 3 days on, 1 day off. Workouts usually consist of Hiit circuits that I make up on my own every morning, by googling other sites and trying out new and different exercises. I usually alternate quick and hard 25 minute circuits (that involve whole body exercises) with a long run once a week and some slower paced strength training exercises. Whatever I do, I try to mix it up a bit so I don't get bored. has to be fast. I have a little toddler that is patiently waiting for me to be done!! Well, maybe not patiently....

Personal Information:
Love to read, watch a good movie, and spend time with my family. When I get in the workout mode, I love to workout, search for healthy recipies.... I am some what of an all-or-nothing person. Trying to work on that. I'm either in really good shape, or I'm 30 pounds overweight...nothing in between. I want to find that balance for myself.

Other Information:
I want to say that all of you inspire me! Reading your ideas and your stories add to my motivation level each morning, You are all a part of my wake-up ritual, which means a cup of coffee (caffiene!!) to get me started and a boost of your motivation to get me started with my next step: My workout routine.

I love this site, and I thank you all for sharing your ideas, stories, and words of encouragement. Good luck to all of you!!

I just read your blog. I know it's tough at night, once the kids are down it's so easy to just munch. I am sending you some of my fitness mojo! Good luck!!!

I'm with you on redefining for myself what food means in my life. I can be so good for a while, then completely lose it and eat without even knowing why. Even though I've been upset that my weight loss journey seems to be taking a very long time, I am happy to be redefining myself rather than not learn my lessons properly. Just wanted you to know that you already look GREAT! and I wish you the best as you strive to achieve your goals!

Thank you for the info on strength training. I used to do it when I was in off season for soccer in college. I do know how to do them, I just didn't know those simple exercises were so beneficial. Thanks! emoticon
