Barb's Life

Hi--I'm an empty nester whose third son married in 2012. I am still recovering from a July 2008 stroke. I started with SparkPeople in March 2012 because keeping my weight in check is very important for my health. I am looking forward to my future as I continue healing and maturing in the Lord. I believe this page will document stair steps of growth and rebuilding.

Update June 2014: A year ago June I started writing and leading a Bible study at church on God and our beginnings and how we walk with Him. A friend and I planted a small garden by my front door for the second year this spring. It gave my neighbors and me much joy last year, and has already started to do so this year. I'm looking forward to see what this summer brings. Life continues to get more interesting as I continue to heal and yield to my Lord.

Update End of August 2014: It's been a good summer. I lost my winter weight and am now around 140 pounds. I've enjoyed outings with family and lots of morning walks. I am at the peak of my exercise cycle, and feel like I've gained back the ground I lost physically over last winter. Now looking for ways to sustain it in the upcoming months.

Update mid-June 2015: Ended up gaining my winter weight back in March 2015. Still there, close to the top of my range, but working on going down. I have kept up enough exercise over the winter to be more fit than a year ago winter, so that's an improvement. I'm having a real hard time with motivation right now, but I keep working sparkpeople, which at least gives me my best chance. Have also hung in at Weight Watchers, partly due to you all! Have a great summer! I plan to, regardless of my struggles!

My Goals:
06-16-15 Get back closer to 140 lbs.

My Program:
06-16-15 I took off a month from exercise, so now am building again slowly. Worked back up to 10,000 steps at least, 5 days or more a week.

Still trying to lose my winter weight where I got to the top of my goal range at 155 lbs. during March 2015. The only good thing is it took me longer to gain it this winter! I'm trying to lose now without going into 3 or more hours of exercise a day at least 5 days a week.

Personal Information:
I live very near Indianapolis, IN. I love my grandkids, who increased from 3 to 5 at year's end 2014 and new year's beginning 2015--our first 2 girls added to our 3 boys. I like seeing them as often as I can. Also enjoy compiling and writing Bible studies, reading, traveling and making new low cal recipes from time to time.

Other Information:
I'm reading two wonderful devotionals. The first is JESUS CALLING by Sarah Young. It's a full year of short devotionals, and I'm reading it for my third year.

The other "devotional" is called RUNNING FROM A CRAZY MAN (and other adventures with Jesus). I got them for my Kindle and just love them!

For how I made the mashed cauliflower last night it made 2 servings at 135 Cals! If you half the butter it would be 115! But how much cauliflower you use adjusts the amount as well. I like to go by weight and add that to my tracker with all the ingredients.

I see that you are a Bible Study group leader. In our church we began a "Health and Holiness" ministry, based in scripture where we focus on spiritual, physical, mental and emotional health while encouraging each other. Very rewarding and motivating.
