Count Down to 2nd Sparkiversary

My 2nd Sparkiversary is coming up on September 10, 2014 and I've come a long way in 2 years. I started out at over 200 pounds and now I'm down to below 170. Woo-Hoo ! My main strategy has been to avoid alcohol which I used to drink almost every evening. I was alcohol-free 107 days over the holidays and lost 14 pounds in that time down to 163. Unfortunately I regained that weight. Now, this summer, I am alcohol-free again. (Day #21 so far) and the weight is coming off quickly. I've lost ...

Being alcohol-free is the KEY for ME !

My Goals:
I want to take care of the body God has given me so that I can live a long and healthy life and be around for any future grandchildren.

My Program:
Only with the strength of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, can I resist the temptation of over-indulging in alcohol, and all those unhealthy extra calories. I will continue to eat lots of fruits and veggies and walk every day. I've always needed plenty of sleep and I will drink lots and lots of water. Mostly I will be grateful to God for all HIS blessings and my wonderful life.

Personal Information:
My name is Valerie and I'm 56 years young. I have a wonderful sweetheart and we live on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico in Florida. I also have two grown sons who are awesome. I'm retired from the medical field. I love my life and it keeps getting better all the time.

Other Information:
My favorite quote is from Psalm 23, "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want" God has taken care of me all of my life and blesses me everyday.

Another favorite is the last verse of Matthew: Jesus said, "I will be with you always, even unto the end of the age"

thanks for the comment on my blog, it wasnt until i got involved with articles and other sparkers pages that i realized food addiction is just as real as any addiction.
i watched an episode of oprah some years back where she had people on who had had weight loss surgery and had gone on to other addictions.
theft, sex, and shopping, gambling and one woman became addicted to meth.
it was because they had the wls without addressing the issue as to why they were abusing food.
this was one reason i chose to put off the surgery myself.
i realized how i was cheating as i was prepping for the surgery.
and talking to others and reading some blogs on a lap band site, so many were telling how they could cheat and how they did cheat.
and seeing it first hand with friends who had the surgery, one friend had weighed nearly 400 pounds and lost 130 quite fast, only now about 3 years later, he still smokes, drinks heavily, eats as he did before surgery and has gained some of that weight back.
no surgery is going to help these people, or myself, until we get to the root of the problem.
addiction, it shows up in many forms.

Thanks for visiting my blog and the feedback. I appreciate your time. My issues aren't anxiety, my brain hasn't slowed down since the day I was born - ask my mother, I was a wild child. haha! Both my mother and brother sleep talk and walk, it's in our genes. I had a good sleep night, last night. Have a wonderful day. emoticon

emoticon for popping by my page. In high school I was underweight for my height because I was close to 100 pounds. I am medium boned but 150 is too heavy. Trust me I wont look or be anorexic at 123. Too bad people have gotten so used to fat on people that they can't see that thin is ok. BMI has actually changed over the years to accommodate our over eating in this country. My range will be 128-123. I was always healthy at that weight and now I'm even an inch shorter! But thanks for looking out for me!
