GreenGenes' SparkPage

First, a little clarification. My name is Dave. I use GreenGenes because I am a Michigan State Spartan (Go Green!) and because of my research interests. Growing up with Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Green Jeans the name seemed to fit.

SparkPeople has helped me reach my weight and fitness goals. I made it several times but fell back into old habits. Just when I think I've learned from my mistakes I fall back into old habits. Just keep on tracking and moving forward.

Greengenes, I was just wondering if you use the sleep tracker with your fitbit. Being how you are in microbiology, I would guess you have a lot of knowledge of the workings of the body. How does the fitbit measure sleep? Do you really think they can tell when you are awake and how deep you are sleeping? Glenn

Thanks for your feedback on the fitbit one. I think that is the one I would get if I didn't decide not to do this right now. I just started back with the gym last Monday. So far, in ten days, I have four gym visits. I will be putting my energies into keeping up consistent and semi-hard working visits. Fit bit might come later. Glenn

Are You Master of Your Spark Domain?

Remember the Seinfeld Game? Remember how quickly Jerry, Kramer and Elaine all were out? Let's see if you can do better. Here is how it works.

Beginning midnight April 1, track. Track everything. Nutrition, water, exercise, the whole shebang. Don't track something, you are out. Fess up. Miss your 8 cups of water, out. Blow your calories, you are out. Fess up on this thread. Exercise without tracking, out. To make it fun, don't exercise at least one hour a week, out.

Once a week on Sundays (say), roll call for those who still are "in" and playing.

Deceptively simple, but it's not. Who's in? Starting roll call this Sunday. Ready, set, go!

(Free year of Spark membership for the winner.) Are you in?

Thanks for commenting on my double half marathon blog.
The two days turned out to be much ore fun than I originally anticipated.
Before the event I wasn't sure I was strong enough to do two halves in two days, especially when my wife, who prompted me to do it, dropped out due to back problems. It was easier than I thought it would be, after the first mile on Sunday.
I did the same double run two years ago. The day after the second half I was called into the doctors office and my health issues were underway. Two years later I'm almost back and now trying to become a faster runner.
