In the Habit of Hope

I've already lost some weight after gaining weight throughout my youth. I the past year and 3/4 or so since starting college, I've lost 20 pounds and moved to a healthy BMI just by eating better (more veggies) and cutting back on bad stuff. I've begun hiking when I'm at home during summers or breaks, and at school I exercise most every day. At least, I did. Lately I've been in a slump. Every time I go from home to school or back, it takes me at least a month to regain some sense of control and ...

I the past year and 3/4 or so since starting college, I've lost 20 pounds and moved to a healthy BMI just by eating better (more veggies) and cutting back on bad stuff. I've begun hiking when I'm at home during summers or breaks, and at school I exercise most every day. At least, I did. Lately I've been in a slump. Every time I go from home to school or back, it takes me at least a month to regain some sense of control and routing.

Eating well in a dining hall is hard because you get sick of eating from the salad bar all the time, and there are way too many desserts. Plus, when you eat with other people you are more inclined to imitate them when you see unhealthy food/behaviors. I count calories and pay attention to what I eat, but I also have trouble with portion control, peer influence, and emotional/boredom eating.

I don't like to talk about my weight loss efforts because I think that it generally annoys people, and it's a bit embarrassing to admit to it, since none of my friends seem to have any interest in eating well at all.

I'm fairly strong, and I'm in better shape than I've ever been before, and I don't want to lose that. I take pride in being flexible and healthy, and my weight right now is better than it used to be. Now, I just want to get over the hump I'm in, where I keep gaining and losing the same 7 pounds or so. I need to get motivated, back to exercising and eating well.
