My Journey to Maintenance

I'm Mary. I just turned 62 in October 2013. I've struggled with yo-yo dieting for more than half my life. I have lost 30-60 lbs. multiple times, only to backslide back into bad habits and regain it all, and sometimes more. I know how to lose weight....my goal is now focused on learning new permanent skills that will ensure I will never see those pounds again.

I know how to lose weight....my goal is now focused on learning new permanent skills that will ensure I will never see those pounds again.

After falling off the wagon yet again, I re-started in January 2014. This time, I am not so much focused on my weekly weigh-in and ultimate goal weight. My main focus is on forming new good daily habits, non-scale victories, and feeling happy and proud each moment of the day. My focus is on consistency and balance.

It may take longer to get to my healthiest weight this time, but my plan is liveable and I will not go backwards. The plan I am using to drop pounds is exactly the plan I will be on to maintain. I will never again go on any restrictive plans that are not sustainable.

My advice to anyone who wants to lose weight is: if you can't see yourself eating this way forever, DON'T EVEN TRY IT! No matter how much weight you take off with it, if the plan is temporary, the results will be too. And then, what was the point? It took me many years to learn this and now the light bulb has come on!
