I am a work in progress

I'm a midlife wife, mother, RN, who likes to stay active and wants to keep it that way for the rest of my life. Have been overweight for 25+ years. I love dogs, I have a five year old Bichon Frise named Linus who likes to walk/run then plop down until I carry him.

9/8/15- Recently had surgery removing my thyroid and 2 parathyroids due to autoimmune disease making them overactive. Now trying to adjust to thyroid replacement medication. Looking for "just the right dose".

1/10/17 -
My husband is supportive and joins me in diet/exercising. I bought him a Garmin activity tracker for his birthday this past summer and he has lost 48 pounds using it along with tracking food on my fitness pal. He is now on maintenance and inspiring me to track my food once again!
1/10/17-
My 28 yr old daughter lives and works nearby and joins us in our walks and developing a healthy lifestyle.

My 23 year old daughter is living an hour away at college. She is a vegetarian but has a pretty bad college dorm junk food habit. She finds time to exercise to maintain a healthy body weight but I have been lecturing her on healthy nutrition. She is a computer engineering student so it is hard to get through to her- LOL She graduates in June and I am hoping that once she settles into a job we can discuss healthy eating habits!!

10/1/17 My youngest daughter is now a college graduate, a computer engineer. She has found a job in Delaware and is 1 1/2 to 2 hours away by car depending on the traffic.

My Goals:
**( September, 2017- Goal for the 5% Fall challenge is to lose approximately 10 pounds in 8 weeks. Waiting for the start date**

1) To lose at least 1 pound each week

2) To stay active and live a healthy lifestyle.

3) To set a good example for my family and loved ones.

4) To encourage my family and loved ones in their own goals and to help them along the way.

5) To lose weight while maintaining lean body mass (i.e. muscle and bone density)

6) This is the most important Goal for me right now: To monitor my TSH, T4, Calcium and parathyroid hormone levels. Maintain the proper dose of medication so that I have energy and a clear head.

My Program:
THE UNDERDAWG OATH

I do solemnly pledge:
that I will do my best to eat healthy and within my calorie range,
that I will exercise to the best of my ability,
that I will watch my portions and avoid mindless eating,
that I will avoid or limit unhealthy foods,
that I will try to get enough sleep,
that I will stretch myself out of my comfort zone,
that I will always try to make healthy choices even when stressed,
that if I slip, I will get back on track with the very next opportunity,
that I will keep a CAN DO attitude, or ask for Help,
and that I will support my fellow pack mates

Because I am an UnderDawg
And every UnderDawg has the heart of a hero.

So Help me Spark People

I have to make it simple. My life is too complex already.

1)Stay within calorie range.

2)Walk with my dog two to three miles a day when weather permits.

3)Exercise on elliptical or bike 3-4 times per week.

4) try to strength train with light weights.

Oh your cat/dog must of been so COOL!!! Though if you're one who LOVES to have them as a LAP DAWG that could be "HUH??"

Izzy though is clearly a LAP cat, and yet also so dang independant that I LOVE her even more. Often I'll come home and NOT be greeted at the door. WHAT's UP with THAT? All of my other cats (so far she's #5 since I've been on my own, I prefer to never have more than 1 or 2 cats at a time) DID greet me at the door giving me a paw for being away. BUT!! Izzy? NOT!! Well maybe 5 times in 6 yrs. She's to busy SNOOZING AWAY usually. Sometimes I'll call her and NO IZZY!! Scares me because she DOES escape my place at times and RUNS WITH ALL SHE HAS!! Living in a high rise with 8 floors and most of them have 16 units I get so scared she'll be taken in by someone who THINKS she's lost. Realize how lovable and sweet she is and KEEP her. HAHAHA she's playing peek a boo with me as I type. Ok, confession and hey, i am not sorry for it. I did stop to play "laser tag" with her. Always so important we never get the laser in their eyes, and she can run amazingly fast for a kitty with a chronic illness!!

ENJOY THE DAY!! From me AND Izzy the Dog/cat.

My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE thing about Sparks is its NOT a diet (First 3 letters "DIE" because it helps to KILL our spirit when it comes to food) instead it's a LIFESTYLE change. In life we are going to have those times it's SO WORTH it to have pizza, Italian sandwiches (YUMMY next week from Amatos! WOOHOOO MaryAnn when she comes here LOVES them also as do most).

At the very next meal we get back on track. In the long sceme of things that pizza (my Italian) doesn't do any "damage". BEST OF ALL NO QUILT!! Diets = GUILT. Lifestayle = Your doing well!! Be on track over all and you ARE a success.
