Billy would have been 30 this year.

After raising over $2,400 for the American Brain Tumor Association in 2012, I decided it was time to lace up my running shoes and bring back Team Carpe Diem.

This year, I will be running in at least 4 different states (NY, NJ, LA, and IL) as the captain of TCD. We have over 10 runners running for the ABTA, three of which, including myself, will be running the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 12- Billy's 30th birthday.

I met Billy in college and had no idea he was sick. After finding out my friend was ill with terminal brain cancer, everything changed. We weren't friends because of the cancer. We were friends because Billy was an amazing person. When I had the flu, Billy insisted that he get me a cup of soup. The poor guy could barely speak or walk and yet he was more concerned with others than himself. That was just Billy's way.

Billy passed on January 16, 2006 at the age of 21. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss him. I have his headshot and one of his famous Carpe Diem scarves in my drawer. They serve as reminders that it's not how many days we have, but how much we put into them that really counts.

Team Carpe Diem has wildly surpassed every single expectation I ever had for this team. We've raised over $3,300 for the American Brain Tumor Association in Billy's honor. Knowing other people depend on me and have believed in the Team enough to donate helps get me out of bed each morning and provides inspiration to keep going.

This year, as I cross the finish line in Chicago, I will certainly think of Billy and reflect on the journey that has been 2014.

Wow, you just made my day. I was pretty sure no one ever read my blog-thank you so much and also thank you for leaving a message!!!

My half went great. It was unusually hot 71 F start temp and we had to traverse a steep bridge twice, tall freighter ships fit under it so it is high. Still managed a 10:39 pace. Was hoping for 10:00 but wasn't to be. My best previos half was 10:20 pace but that was on a cooler day on an easier course. Still shooting for 10:20 pace marathon. The marathon course is flat and it should be cooler so it should be doable. Thanks for asking.

Thanks for the friend add! I loved reading your bio. Very inspirational! I also ran my 1st half this fall and will be running two half-marathons next year with, God willing, a full marathon next fall. So we can train together!!

I was never a baker until I got married and my hubby loved his sweets. Now I love learning how to make "healthier" desserts--muffins, cookies, cakes, etc. My favorites are No-Sugar Added Banana Nut Muffins and Pineapple Angel Food Cake. (Still have to regulate portions, but it is much better for you.) :)

Anyway, looking forward to cheering you on!!
