I became a WW lifetime member after the birth of my beautiful son, 30 years ago. After a very successful WW experience, I blissfully believed I no longer had to be concerned about my relationship with food and weight because life was pretty good for quite a long time. I was able to keep the weight off for many years. Slowly, over years, stress due to job, ex-husband, family issues and other factors chipped away at my blissful resolve and I starting regaining weight that I thought was long gone. Although, I had gained some weight, I plateaued and wasn't too concerned because it just seemed it was a new "set point" as I got older, plus I pretended that the weight would come off as easily as it did the first time. But I was then faced with traumatic and life altering challenges, physical, financial, personal and professional. Some challenges were wonderful such as being a "late in life mommy" with the birth of my beautiful twin daughters in 2000 (I was 43 when they were born). Other challenges were incredibly difficult and painful, such as being bedridden during the pregnancy due to one of the babies being under stress, realizing my new marriage was to an alcoholic, becoming a single mom when they were only 21 months old, job loss, severe financial problems. I did a lot of stress eating and also wasn't able to get out much because my daughters were sick a lot and I had very little time for myself due to working long hours to keep our family afloat. I gained a lot of weight as a result, more than I had ever weighed in my life, even more than when I was pregnant with the twins. Thankfully many of these challenges are behind me although due to starting over financially, I have little personal time (for a woman my age). But no more excuses, I want to learn (or remember) how to face my life and future challenges in a healthier way. I believe that learning new ways will in the long run, be the best way to break this cycle in my life. I am thankful for Sparkpeople, the tools, the teams and the ability to connect with the many inspirational Sparkpeople.
