getting healthier every day :D

I pledge to take care of my body and to respect the amazing things my body can do as an "adult onset athlete"!

I am making healthy and varied food choices, and eating portions appropriate to fuel me though the day. I incorporate exercise into my daily life, and am amazed at how much energy exercise gives me.

I am grateful for the knowledge and inspiration SP gives me as I achieve my goals.

My Goals:
CURRENT:
• complete the Gate River Run 15K on 3/13/10 at a jog pace

• complete the Hippie Chick Half Marathon on 5/8/10 at a jog pace

(remember that your first race of any distance is a PR!!)

COMPLETED:
• do a 5K race at a jog in 2009
- Goal met 5/31/09 -

• complete 10K training program (comfortably jog 6.5 miles straight)
- Goal met 9/21/09 -

• complete P90X program (classic version) - start date: 9/25/09
- Goal met 12/24/09 -

• complete 10 week half marathon training program
- Goal met 1/30/10 -

ONGOING:
• strength training with 27lb kettlebell daily (building consistency)

• ride bike to work 3 or more times each week

• focus on naturally sweet foods (like fresh fruit) instead of refined sugar; avoid HFCS, which is a trigger 'food' for me.

My Program:
• Half Marathon training - 3 or 4x a week
(one interval session, 1-2 short session(s), and one long run)

• Cross Training goal:
1 cardio (kickboxing, plyometrics, etc.), 1 yoga, and 1 strength (30 Day Shred, P90X resistance training,
kettlebells, etc.) routine a week

Personal Information:
I'm originally from Wisconsin and moved to Jacksonville, FL, both because I've had my fill of frigid weather and ice-skating rink roads and sidewalks, and because my parents live just over the border in Georgia.

I'm adjusting to the steamy Florida weather - building muscle & improving my cardiovascular fitness is making me more resilient in the humidity. I'm finding that riding my bike to work isn't as sweaty an activity as I become more and more fit! :D

I am in the process of getting fast and strong enough to be a runner. Note to self: you don't have to go fast, you just have to go!

Other Information:
I love spending time in nature, being creative (knitting, painting, etc.), and spending time with my husband and our combined four kitties.

I'm lucky to have kick-ass friends and family, and I'm grateful for every one of them each and every day.

OMG it was epic food.

I got the savory raw casserole this time.
Cashew cheese and avocado layered with zucchini and topped with buckwheat "breadcrumbs". Super creamy and AWESOME. Very rich with lots of protein and good fat. Just what my muscles wanted! Served with an absolutely huge mixed baby green salad with a very light dousing of cashew ranch and sprinkled with sesame seeds.

We missed the last slice of cake (and it was caramel! SOB!) but we got a sundae that more than made up for it. Banana/blueberry "ice cream" with some fresh blueberries on top and date goo with almond slivers in the bottom of the glass. The thing was huge and wonderful.

I need to eat more banana ice cream!
I just LOVE it. Mmmmmmm....
