Back on Track!

UPDATE (10/9/12): It is October and I just had my first competition of the year. Yes, I suffered from burn out... and weight gain... and nagging 'injuries'. But, I'm trying to get back on track! I have 10-12 pounds to lose and speed to gain. And, I have to get my body stronger & more flexible so I don't keep having all of these aches & pains. But, it'll happen if I stick with it!

For the rest of the year, I hope to lose 5 pounds (it's so hard during the holidays!) and get back in the 130's. And, I have 3 races left this year: a 10 miler (this weekend) and 2 Half Marathons, #5 & #6, in November & December. My last Half was last December where I made an incredible PR of 2:28:38! I will be running that same race this Dec and hope to do as well!

2011 Events:
Jan 29 - Fillie Trot 10K (1:14:29) (adjusted)
Apr 10 - Caveman Sprint Triathlon (my 1st tri!) (275 yds/13 mi/5k)(1:50:37)
May 7 - CB&I Sprint Triathlon (500m/15mi/5K) (1:54:09)
Sep 10 - Bearkat Bash 5K (32:00) PR!!!
Oct 9 - Mother Road Half Marathon (2:37:00) PR!!!
Nov 13 - San Antonio RnR HM (2:33:02) PR!!!
Dec 11 - RunGirl 13.1 HM (2:28:33) PR!!!

UPDATE (11/5/11): I am now one week away from HM#3! Then, on Dec 3rd, I'll be running Vegas at night...and become a Half Fanatic! My speed has steadily been improving lately, thank, in part, to the cooler weather! And, in bigger part, to my hard work!

As far as my weight, it has been up & down lately between 131-135. I have not been eating well for months. If I didn't work out so much, I would be gaining a lot more. I need to start eating well for my health...and because I AM an athlete!

UPDATE (07/23/11): My SP journey is now about 14 months old. I have lost almost 30 pounds in that time and went from 'nothing' to running to a half marathon to 2 sprint triathlons...in less than a year. I continue to faithfully workout and LOVE running and many other sports now.

I have discovered "Half Fanatics", and that is my current goal! There are different ways to qualify, but one way is to run 3 half marathons in 3 months. I've only ran 1 HM before...in Nov of last year. But, I'm now 'in training' for 3 HMs...Nov, Dec & Jan! That'll be a LOT of running, but to me it's a good alternative to a marathon (which I'm not ready for). As my running group says, a HM is half the distance, but twice the fun!

UPDATE (4/16/11): Last weekend, I competed in my first sprint triathlon! It is difficult, but a lot of fun, to juggle training for 3 sports at once. I was really nervous race day and it was HARD to complete the run. The course was windy (25 mph steady winds) and hilly (compared to where I train). But, I DID IT! I AM a triathlete!

I'm now training for sprint tri #2 and half marathon #2, though today I'm sitting on the couch with a possible stress fracture. I also continue to lose weight and am almost in the 120's! I bought my first size 6 pants this week, which I thought was a fluke. But, yesterday I tried on some 8s and they were too big! The 6s fit just fine! I can't imagine being a 6, and it really wasn't even a goal.

UPDATE (2/6/11): 2011 has started out great. I've been working out hard! I'm getting fitter, thinner(met my original goal weight in January!), faster, and stronger. And, I'm trying new things: like pilates, rowing, and bootcamp.

I am currently training for my 2nd half marathon (April 10 - Go St Louis) and my first sprint triathlon (May 7 - CB&I Tri). I have bumped up my workouts to about 9 per week with several days having a morning & evening workout. I also started getting up at 5:40 two or three times a week to squeeze in those extra workouts. And, it's paying off!

UPDATE (11/30/10): I did it! I ran my first half marathon in Tulsa, Oklahoma on November 21st. I did it in a little under 3 hours. I'm a half marathoner!!!

UPDATE (11/10/10): I never thought I'd be a runner, but I am! I am currently only about a week and a half a way from my first half marathon! I'm excited, and nervous. I can't believe that I went from barely being able to run 60 seconds to running 13.1 miles (about 3 hours!) in less than 5 months!!!

After my Half Marathon, I will decide if I want to continue to focus on running or start training for a sprint triathlon, which was my original plan. Either way, I need to remember that I don't need to 'do it all' now... I just need to keep moving forward!

UPDATE (9/8/10): I finished C25K (couch to 5K) several weeks ago. I am still amazed that I did it! When I started at the beginning of June, I could barely run for a minute at a time. When I ran my first 3 minute run, I felt like I'd run a marathon. Now, I'm regularly running over 3 miles... which takes me about 50 minutes because I'm so slow! But, I'm proud of my accomplishment.

With school back in session and darker mornings, my workouts aren't as often or as long as they were in the summer. But, I'm excited to start runniing some 5Ks. I'll run my first on Sept 11th and then 2 more in October.

I'm hoping to buy a bike soon so I can start riding and planning on taking some swimming lessons to improve my stroke. I plan on doing my first Triathlon in April.

Personal Information:
I live in Texas and am 42 years old. I am married and have a daughter who is 12. My starting weight on June 1, 2010, was 159. I reached my original goal weight of 136 on Jan 21, 2011. That was my high school weight! I eventually dropped to 131-133 and held that weight for most of the year. Then, throughout 2012, the weight started creeping up. Now, I'm back to 147 and trying to get back around 135 and STAY there!

Other Information:
Besides my new found love of fitness, my hobbies include traveling, photography (especially nature...especially insects!), genealogy, & reading. I also love to TEACH! As my daughter started school this year (6th grade...we'd homeschooled until now), I am trying to decide what to "be". I have a lot of choices & need to narrow it down!

So cool to go for the tri or duo again. I have actually thought about a duo also because it is so hard for me to fit in the water training...especially the open water. But if you are part of a group that is doing it, wow! That would be super.

I am hyper-careful out on the road and aim to be as predictable as possible to motorists and other cyclists. No surprises thank you! :-)

There are some intersections around town that I just don't believe are safely navigable on my bike. I'll get off and walk across like a pedestrian at those intersections.

Hey I see I've overlooked adding you as a SparkFriend! :-)

Truth be known, I wouldn't have been able to do much outside anyway since I'm wearing a cam boot (post-surgery). But it would be nice to be able to walk around outside or even sit without freezing or getting snow in the dang thing. Yay for your nice weather and the ability to choose indoor or outdoor. In the dead of summer, I suspect it is too hot to run outside?

Hope you are doing well. It is good to see you back.

I stopped tracking several months ago and did well for 6 weeks or so. As time went on, I noticed I was "sampling" as I cooked or just mindlessly grabbing bites instead of having my regular planned snacks. Didn't take long for that to start adding up! I'm back on tracking and mindful choices. I added 7 in my free-for-all period. And I was so committed to losing 10 during the off-season! Now it's 17. Blech.

Thanks for the friend add! I'm looking forward to a very positive year, especially with getting back into the runs and tris. Can't wait to see how you do with your PR goals! Rooting for you!!
