IOWAGRAMMA is a SparkPeople Motivator!
I'm 70+ and live in the Midwest most of the year, but often head to south Texas or Arizona for some of the cold winter months. We have 3 living children, 2 DGSs, ages 13 and 10, and a grown DGD who is mommy to our great-grandchildren, a girl and a boy!! Being overweight has been a problem for me since my last pregnancy over 40 years ago! I've probably lost 750 pounds in my life, only to put it all back on time and time again. I also have osteoarthritis and hauling all this weight around is not good for that. So, in the interest of preserving my replaced hips, enjoying life, and above all, being healthier, I'm working on improving my general health and becoming more active--would love to keep up with the grandsons for a very long time! SparkPeople is giving me that chance!
My overall goals are simple. I want to lead a healthier lifestyle that helps me to have the energy and enthusiasm to be active and happy. In order to do this, I will take off the excess pounds by eating healthier and exercising.
My program is also simple:
1. I will eat within my daily calorie range and abstain from evening eating and snacking.
2. I will eat at least 5-7 freggies each day.
3. I will eat 3+ protein servings daily, including at least two dairy.
4. The remainder of my calories will come in the form of carbs.
5. I will include strength and stretching exercises in my daily routine.
6. I will participate in the Silver Sneakers and water exercise programs at the Y 3-5 times each week.
7. I will continue to exercise a minimum of 10 min/day on days with no scheduled activities.
8. I will weigh in weekly and actively participate in the 5% Fall Challenge, as well as my team activities.
I love to read, do genealogy, spend as much time as possible with our grandsons and new great-granddaughter. We just moved to a condo last spring, so we're adjusting to having no outdoor responsibilities. We've rented a city garden spot for this year and we're looking forward to having plenty of fresh veggies!

I've been lax about visiting my Spark page the past couple of weeks since the challenge ended (I was out of town part of last week - no internet access) so I just saw the hat and scarf goodie that you sent me! Sorry to be so long with my thanks.
Thank you too for sharing your story about your daughter's winter arrival. These December babies! Our daughter was our first and also the first grandchild for my in-laws who drove through more snowy weather a few days later to see their granddaughter MIL had 4 boys so they were pretty excited about a girl!
We'll see our DD tomorrow as we're attending a birthday party for our DGS who had a birthday November 29 - one week to the day ahead of his mother!

According to the internet the temps in Iceland should be about 32/F when we are there. I've packed t-shirts, sweaters and a jacket along with a scarf and gloves. I'm hoping the layering method works for us. First day is bathing in the Blue Lagoon!!! We're told it will be more than warm enough so sure hope so. After that we are outside most of the time especially at night. Will keep you posted.

The phone company will credit for the days out of service, but I'm going to press for a full month's credit. The landline still isn't receiving calls. I have no intention of closing the account. Can't imagine not having a phone that has clear sound and, except for this week, has always been reliable. The same doesn't hold for my cell, which works only at one window in my apartment and not all the time!

OH YEAH !! That's a FUN FUN FUN way to do a gift !! LOL Especially to teens !! WE KNOW HOW HOPEFUL they are,,,, and when they SEE A BIG BOX,, their EYES POP OUT !! LOL When Eppy did this to her D,,, the middle one (has 2 sets of twins, all are grown now) and L saw the box (She was 17) YES her eyes got HUGE !! Than box to box to box,,, as they got smaller she kept saying "Oh a SMALLER one, wonder if it has a computer,, smaller one ,, Tablet,,, smaller "Phone" ,,, the last one being the box of cereal ,,, of which she had been sooo careful to not rip the top ,,, and than to reglue it,, and the stuff in front of it,, she had taped the end down,,, put that end down first into the box,,, so when L opened the box and saw it was a "Cheerio" box,,, she laughed saying "Oh funny ! I KNOW it's NOT cereal you bought me something REALLY GOOD to be wrapped up like THIS !! Oh yeah,, did I tell you on every box,,, she had taped it ALL AROUND with packing clear tape (LOL L was about FIT TO BE TIED !) so than L as she opened the box,, saw the cheerios said that , she than OPENED the Cheerio box and saw it was SEALED CORRECTLY !! Than she got MAD MAD MAD and THREW IT ACROSS the room (Hmmm Lisa is QUITE materialistic ,, which of course her family knew,, hmmm she still is at 30) saying "YOU BOUGHT ME CHEERIO's !!! "
HAHAHA the rest of the family was in on it,, so they had been egging her along as she was opening ever SOOO SLOWLY (LOL package tape, ALL AROUND IT,, PRICELESS ! HAHAHAHA) they all LAUGHED SOOO HARD Except for her Dad,, T can NOT keep a secret and L is his fav child (since there's only one of her,,, oh she WAY MORE THAN MADE UP FOR THAT !! At 17,,, she took out a TON of credit cards,, ran them up over $20,000 !!! Her parents DID Have to pay them off !).
ENJOY It Jeannie !! Again PRICELESS !! I think I'll do this to my brother R,,,, he has QUITE the sense of humor,, and is a most loved guy,, ,and he LOVES to pull tricks, so YEAH !
