IOWAGRAMMA is a SparkPeople Motivator!
I'm 70+ and live in the Midwest most of the year, but often head to south Texas or Arizona for some of the cold winter months. We have 3 living children, 2 DGSs, ages 12 and 9, and a grown DGD who is mommy to our first great-grandchild, a girl!! Being overweight has been a problem for me since my last pregnancy over 40 years ago! I've probably lost 750 pounds in my life, only to put it all back on time and time again. I also have osteoarthritis and hauling all this weight around is not good for that. So, in the interest of preserving my replaced hips, enjoying life, and above all, being healthier, I'm working on improving my general health and becoming more active--would love to keep up with the grandsons for a very long time! SparkPeople is giving me that chance!
My overall goals are simple. I want to lead a healthier lifestyle that helps me to have the energy and enthusiasm to be active and happy. In order to do this, I will take off the excess pounds by eating healthier and exercising.
My program is also simple:
1. I will eat within my daily calorie range and abstain from evening eating and snacking.
2. I will eat at least 5-7 freggies each day.
3. I will eat 3+ protein servings daily, including at least two dairy.
4. The remainder of my calories will come in the form of carbs.
5. I will include strength and stretching exercises in my daily routine.
6. I will participate in the Silver Sneakers and water exercise programs at the Y 3-5 times each week.
7. I will continue to exercise a minimum of 10 min/day on days with no scheduled activities.
8. I will weigh in weekly and actively participate in the 5% Spring Challenge, as well as my team activities.
I love to read, do genealogy, spend as much time as possible with our grandsons and new great-granddaughter. We just moved to a condo last spring, so we're adjusting to having no outdoor responsibilities. We've rented a city garden spot for this year and we're looking forward to having plenty of fresh veggies!

You're so right. I always forget how hard closets are to paint. The larger of the two is finished and DH is re-installing the shelving. The smaller one will have to wait for another day. It will be even tougher as barely enough room to stand in there so I will end up covered with paint. We plan on being in this house for 7-8 years so I tell myself I won't have to do it again. It will be the responsibility of someone else! LOL

OH Jeannie !! HOW SCARY to be in an accident !! GLAD your car has been replaced. Of course that's very important. SO LAD you weren't hurt !! We had NO clue how awful we would turn out to be years later. We had "thought" "WOW We so FORTUNATE !! We WALKED AWAY !" Hmmmmm NOT ! We were in such shock we didn't feel all the pain we were in. It'd let us know the next day,, and days,, weeks,, months later. We only settled because CONN is a no fault state. All we could get was to recover the work hrs loss for the 3 months,,, and the medical expenses. It was such a JOKE !! HUGE joke ! We'd both end up in wheelchairs within months of each other. We both FOUGHT that so HARD ! For me it had reached the point where I was in bed otherwise than the bathroom,, and grab food I didn't have to cook,, even heat up for 3 months before I would even consider it.
Thankfully as you know,, i am walking again,, well as foot allows. It's a PRECIOUS gift to walk !! Many have NO CLUE ! They just automatically get up take steps ,,, no thought. Hey it's natural !! For those of us who have had to fight,, or are fighting to ,,, walking is a special privilege. LOL Izzy ,, cat,, is laying in my arm,, as I TRY to type. She does this every night,, and looks up at me as if to say "You are my HERO !" and to a rescue animal,,,, guess that's true. She's sooo precious ! I am quite sure you remember me talking about Wincey AKA Princey,, AKA Princess. she passed away 5 yrs ago from cancer. I thought I was taking her in for her asthma treatment,,, noppers turned out she was full of cancer,,, from her mouth all the way down to what she used for the kitty litter. Such a huge awful news ! That day ,,within an hr I was at the rescue shelter. The person I had me I had told "I have ALWAYS WANTED an ORANGE cat. DO NOT let me with ANYTHING Else than an ORANGE Kitty !" Well Izzy had OTHER idea's,, don't they almost always get what they WANT??? I had been looking at ONLY orange kitties,,,, as I was getting ready to go around the 2nd time for none of them hit my heart,,,,I figured "i'll settle for one and we'll learn to love each other" when a white paw reached outside the cage,,it was upside down,, and it motioned us over ! The shelter volunteer said "She's been here for a week. She's very pretty, but she will have NOTHING to do with anyone. This is the FIRST time she's shown interest." So yeah that was teh start of a wonderful "she owns me" for us both. She's a sweetie and ever so gentle with all who come in. if someone is upset at all,, she'll go right over to them, jump up onto their lap. Most will hold her,,, on her back. When they do she ALWAYS puts up one or both paws onto their face. EVERYONE thinks "they are special" and I don't usually say "she does that to everyone."
