Hello! I am a teacher in suburban St. Louis--a reading specialist, more specifically. I'm in my 11th year of teaching, and I'm finally tackling the weight I've put on since I started my career. There's the stress of the job that is enough to pack on pounds, but then there's the resulting lack of energy that leads to making poor food choices and not exercising. However, thanks in part to SparkPeople, things ARE getting better!!!
Drop the 70 pounds or so that I have gained since I started teaching (most of which came in the last couple of years).
~ Tracking my food intake as diligently as possible. Even when I'm not behaving. ;)
~ Tracking my exercise, which includes walking in my neighborhood, DVDs, strength training, yoga, and stretching routines. I am currently using lots of Leslie Sansone videos for cardio, Jillian Michaels for strength and Katherine Coffee and Tamilee Webb for stretching routines.
~ Wearing a pedometer to track my steps. I really try to shoot for 10000 steps, but my daily SP goal is a more realistic 7500.
I live in the St. Louis, MO, area with my husband Matt and our cute dogs Mollie and Sandy.
I love sports (Royals, Chiefs, Cardinals, Blues, Rams, Mizzou Tigers, Missouri State Bears), politics, and reading books that help my personal growth without being too New Age-y.

I saw your comments on being a reading teacher and have to say you have a hard job. I hated school back when I went in the 50s/60s because I was an "A" student who had to sit in a class with boys who couldn't read. Back then if you were 10, then you HAD to be in 4th grade no matter how smart you were, no going ahead to where you were academically. So, I'm glad today that those kids who can't read and need next help get taken to a reading teacher, and I'm glad there are Magnet Schools (at least here in Pensacola) where if you are a gifted student you can go and be with other kids who are working at your level. I always remembered what my First Grade teacher, Mrs. Erb told me "Honey, if you want to be a good reader, then you have to read A LOT every day." I had my children start learning the Dolch reading list when they were two years old.
