W.W. QUEEN

I started attending Weight Watchers over 40 yrs. ago, when I was in high school. WOW...that makes me sound really OLD! The closest meeting was 90 miles- one way! My mother and I went together. I think she was doing it more for me than for her. She didn't want me to experience life as a fat person like she had. I guess I wasn't ready back then. In my mid-20's I went back to WW, and took off 75 lb. I didn't recognize the person that I saw in the mirror. I went thru a dramatic physical change, but ...
I went thru a dramatic physical change, but never really accepted my weight loss emotionally. I'd never had to deal with attention from the opposite sex, or jealousy from other women. I didn't even know how to accept a compliment. I gradually gained the weight back. It made me feel safe.

Over the years I have lost 50 lb here...75 lb there, but I would always gain it back, +more, of course. I finally get it. Weight loss is not just physical...it's mental, and emotional. Even spiritual. I have all of the tools that I need here at SparkPeople, and at my WW meetings. I'm not afraid of failing. I'm not afraid of succeeding! It took me 40 years to get to this place- IT*SNEVER2LATE!!!

*TRIBUTE TO BETTY~*

Betty Boop is a legend we grew up with
and a lady with class,
She can be a cowgirl or princess, quiet or
sometimes full of sass.
We can decide her mood for the day
and create her image anew,
She's got clothes most only dream of,
that's what we love to do.
Our imagination's can travel far with
Betty Boop,
So here's to you Betty,a big

"Boop-Oop-A-Doop"!

UPDATE- 12/20/2008
Started over again...again. Well, I've lost 61 lbs & it has only taken me 28 months! Actually, I've lost over 30 0f those pounds in the last 4 months. I have a new attitude. Just a few months ago, I was mentally placing myself on transplant lists for both liver & kidneys, and thinking how I might not get to see my 1st grandchild born. Now I'm living one day at a time, but making goals & plans into the next decade & the one after that...

UPDATE- 2/23/09
Just 9# away from my halfway mark! When I started, I had 155# to lose. No small task, but I actually think I'm gonna get there. It hasn't always been easy, but it's been an amazing journey. I've met some awesome people along the way. SparkPeople are so encouraging and uplifting! I have not been as active as I once was, but I scope things out on a regular basis. I'm SO ready for Spring! The robins are back in Iowa, so that's a positive sign. Thanks for caring enough to visit my page.

Jesus loves you, and so do I !

UPDATE~6/27/13
After alot of research, some soul searching, and many prayers, I have decided to pursue bariatric surgery. If my evaluation is OK'd, I am firmly committed to the changes that will need to take place. My insurance mandates that I need to be on a medically supervised diet for 6 months. I'm using this time to change my mind-set, and end my relationship with food. I have something that I didn't have before...and that is HOPE and FAITH! To be continued...

Thanks for your sweet comments on my page. I still struggle with protein even four years out from surgery. I rarely get my 60 g a day. I shoot for 135-195 carbs a day, but unless I'm having a really bad day I'm usually on the low side of that number, too. I am religious about my daily vitamins, calcium, D3 and monthly B12 shot though, so I don't seem to be any worse for the wear.

I can't even remember where I got the carb numbers, but I think I went to some website that evaluated my age, activity level etc and recommended that range for me. I turned 63 in March and while I'm far more active than I was before surgery, I don't work at a formal exercise routine.

In the first year or two after surgery I worried a lot about my failure to reach protein and fiber goals and felt guilty about exercise, but I gradually realized that I am far healthier than I was before and as long as my health holds steady and I feel good, I don't fret too much anymore. The one issue I've had since surgery is low blood sugar. Never had that problem before, but now I have to be careful about it.

Keep in touch and don't hesitate to ask questions either directly to me or in the monthly chat forum.

Blessings,
Linda

I was reading you post and it was like you were telling my story. I remember the times when I lost weight and people would tell me how good I looked and it was like something clicked in my head and said that's enough and then the weight would come back. I fully understand the feeling safe concept, all my life I have been overweight, the feelings of rejection from kids at school, feeling I wasn't worthy or too scared to try anything new because of my weight. I look back now and feel regret that I allowed myself to miss out on so much. I turned 40 last year and I don't want to miss out on any more of my life. Thank you so much for sharing your story, I never knew that there were others who felt that way.
