Don't give up yet! And don't let perfect be the enemy of Good. Wait. See what happens. My brother once said to treat teenagers like wild animals----let them approach *you*. Maybe sometimes that applies to people with mental illness? Be patient, at least for a bit. Holidays are stressful. Who says Christmas has to be celebrated ON Christmas? Having lived in NYC, I relished doing ANYTHING on Christmas, when I couldn't visit family: I could watch a movie, I could eat Chinese or Indian food, I could shop, etc.
Be open to what gifts Christmas can bring, and maybe lower expectations. But that doesn't mean letting your *self* down: pick what is important to you, and hit some of those sweet spots. And be flexible about dates...(take that as you will).
