In March 2014 I will celebrate my 68th birthday and over the last 18 years I have gained approximately 130 pounds and have reached close to 300 pounds.
I suffer from arthritis, fibromyalgia, sleep apnea, asthma, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, depression and anxiety and in March of 2009 I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I have just been told that I have chronic kidney disease and have had to change my medication. The new med is causing side effects, but if I can't regulate my body to this medication, I will have to resort to shots. Thanks but no thanks.
My new PCP is adamant that I buckle down and lose weight and do it quickly.
To add to my list of ailments, I have a tear in my medial meniscus that requires surgery. My "mental health specialist" wants me to hold off on the surgery until Spring because she is concerned that it will be just the excuse I need to isolate myself all winter long.
Both of my parents lived into their 90's and were in better health than I am right now. I've got to get a handle on all of these and bring myself back to a healthy lifestyle.

My Goals:
I have been widowed twice, and as a result of my second husband's passing, I have been living in the past. I had a great marriage and I miss him every day, but this is not how he would want me to live. Although I have no intentions to replace him, I know it is time for me to move forward in my own life and get to a healthy point so that I will feel good about myself and the days ahead. In our country's current time of financial crisis, I know there are other people a lot worse off than myself. I want to get moving and contribute something to those less fortunate. Even if for now it's just a friendly smile and a word of encouragement, I want to give something back.

My Program:
I have become very isolated and because of this I have fallen into the bad habit of staying up very late at night and consequently getting up later in the morning. I am trying to set a schedule for myself so that I can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner rather than the all day grazing that I have become accustomed to. As I get this in place, I want to start a gradual program of excercise and walking to help with my goals as well as my emotions.

Personal Information:
I have lived in the same town in Massachusetts for the past 61 years. My parents owned and lived in their home for almost 55 years and left only when it became necessary for them to recieve additional care due to their decling health. I want to be able to live a more productive life, so I am starting here with my diet and fitness.

Other Information:
I love children, especially babies. I never had my own, but I have had 8 stepchildren and 7 stepgrandchildren. I have worked as a Nanny and a Mother's Helper and have also had my own Home Childcare. I love movies and reading and counted cross-stitch.
