During the fall of 2012 my then 16 year old niece came to live with me and it was a difficult adjustment for both of us. I found myself eating all the wrong things and way too much. That ,plus the inactivity of winter, caused those pounds to return. The fact that this happened to me was actually a surprise and a good lesson. In the past I struggled with the same 5 pounds. When I lost 15 I thought I had a better margin for error. Little did I know how easy it was to gain 15 pounds.

Fall of 2013 I came back to Spark. I committed myself to regular cardio exercise and strength training throughout the winter. I recommitted to tracking my food and staying within my calorie range. This time I dropped 24 pounds. In March of 2014 I weighed 130 pounds. I had not been that thin in 30 years probably. But I made the same mistakes. As spring rolled around and I was able to get out on the golf course, I thought all the extra walking entitled me to treat myself. I ate what I wanted and thought I could get away with it.
So here I am, its 2015 and I am 141 pounds and I am doing it all over again. I have to learn my lesson more than once apparently.

My Goals:
To age as gracefully as possible by being fit and active. To achieve and maintain a healthy BMI and to feel good about how I look from any angle! I think to achieve that goal my weight must be somewhere south of 130. Probably 120 but initially I am shooting for 130

My Program:
Focus on achieving a minimum of 10,000 steps a day. During the winter this requires an hour or so on the treadmill every day.
I work out with a personal trainer 2X per week and this has really helped me become stronger and more flexible.
During the summer I golf and walk the golf course 4-5 X per week. On those days I achieve close to 20,000 steps a day. This is way more fun than my hours on the treadmill.
For nutrition I strive to make my calories as satisfying and nutritious as possible. I avoid processed foods. Eat most all vegetables fresh. I eat copious amounts of fresh fruit.

Personal Information:
I live in New Hampshire. My 18 year old niece lives with me. She is a senior in high school. When she goes off to college, I plan to spend a good amount of the winter in a warmer climate. New Hampshire is my home but I hate the cold more and more every year.

Other Information:
I love golf and the beach. I read over 50 books a year and love the movies.
I have also been teaching myself Italian for the past year.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I did make it to the range yesterday and spent some needed time on my swing. Dedicated some time to my shorter irons too which was a big help! Hope you have a great week! I may try and get out again before my round on Thursday.

Fresh cilantro is a fave for me but: it's one of the herbs which spoils fastest and there is no substitute for fresh in salads.

I do sometimes buy "tubes" of herbs of various types which do keep fresh in the fridge: cilantro, ginger, basil, mixed Italian. And they're fine in soups, even salad dressings . . . but not as an "ingredient".
