I joined Spark in 2011 Over that winter I lost about 15 pounds. I was able to maintain reasonably well through the summer of 2012 without focusing too much on calorie counts. I joined Spark in 2011 Over that winter I lost about 15 pounds. I was able to maintain reasonably well through the summer of 2012 without focusing too much on calorie counts. During the fall of 2012 my then 16 year old niece came to live with me and it was a difficult adjustment for both of us. I found myself eating all the wrong things and way too much. That ,plus the inactivity of winter, caused those pounds to return. The fact that this happened to me was actually a surprise and a good lesson. In the past I struggled with the same 5 pounds. When I lost 15 I thought I had a better margin for error. Little did I know how easy it was to gain 15 pounds.

This last fall (2013) I came back to Spark. I have committed myself to regular cardio exercise throughout the winter. I have recommitted to tracking my food and staying within my calorie range. I dropped about 12 pounds in 4 months and now I am in the more difficult stage where every pound lost is a battle. However, I am focusing on building a life of healthy living and not thinking of this time as a diet per se. I am continually working to improve the quality of my diet by expanding the choices of foods I eat. I have never relied on fast food or processed foods either but I have to plan to achieve a nutritious and balanced diet. I read about nutrition and find I keep learning how to do this better and better.

My Goals:
To age as gracefully as possible by being fit and active. To achieve and maintain a healthy BMI and to feel good about how I look from any angle! I think to achieve that goal my weight must be somewhere south of 130. Probably 120 but initially I am shooting for 130

My Program:
Focus on achieving a minimum of 10,000 steps a day. During the winter this requires an hour or so on the treadmill every day.
I work out with a personal trainer 2X per week and this has really helped me become stronger and more flexible.
During the summer I golf and walk the golf course 4-5 X per week. On those days I achieve close to 20,000 steps a day. This is way more fun than my hours on the treadmill.
For nutrition I strive to make my calories as satisfying and nutritious as possible. I avoid processed foods. Eat most all vegetables fresh. I eat copious amounts of fresh fruit.

Personal Information:
I live in New Hampshire. My 17 year old niece lives with me. She is a junior in high school. When she goes off to college, I plan to spend a good amount of the winter in a warmer climate. New Hampshire is my home but I hate the cold more and more every year.

Other Information:
I love golf and the beach. I read over 50 books a year and love the movies.
I have also been teaching myself Italian for the past year.

Hi! I've been away from the spark site this summer, but I've been working on golf. I'm impressed that you play 18 holes 4-5 days per week and walk the course! You are an inspiration! I walk and push my clubs and then I am so wiped out at the end of a round! I got a Fitbit Wristband a week ago and I love it. I've been walk-jogging and doing Zumba this week (my course was closed for aeration). I golf 3x per week. I'm looking forward to meeting my steps goal while golfing tomorrow:)

Thanks for reading my blog about our Masters experience. Having been there you know how it feels. The azaleas were not in full bloom, but, had enough already to show some color. The entire trip was awesome. On Thursday , on our way home, we stopped at the River Bank zoo and visited the botanical gardens there and saw even more beauty. They had tons of tulips of all colors and lots of flowers in full bloom, plants and shrubs everywhere and what I call a snowball bush that was the biggest I have ever seen. Oops, didn't mean to write another blog! Have a wonderful weekend!
