I joined Spark in 2011 Over that winter I lost about 15 pounds. I was able to maintain reasonably well through the summer of 2012 without focusing too much on calorie counts. I joined Spark in 2011 Over that winter I lost about 15 pounds. I was able to maintain reasonably well through the summer of 2012 without focusing too much on calorie counts. During the fall of 2012 my then 16 year old niece came to live with me and it was a difficult adjustment for both of us. I found myself eating all the wrong things and way too much. That ,plus the inactivity of winter, caused those pounds to return. The fact that this happened to me was actually a surprise and a good lesson. In the past I struggled with the same 5 pounds. When I lost 15 I thought I had a better margin for error. Little did I know how easy it was to gain 15 pounds.

Fall of 2013 I came back to Spark. I committed myself to regular cardio exercise and strength training throughout the winter. I recommitted to tracking my food and staying within my calorie range. This time I dropped 24 pounds. In March of 2014 I weighed 130 pounds. I had not been that thin in 30 years probably. But I made the same mistakes. As spring rolled around and I was able to get out on the golf course, I thought all the extra walking entitled me to treat myself. I ate what I wanted and thought I could get away with it.
So here I am, its 2015 and I am 141 pounds and I am doing it all over again. I have to learn my lesson more than once apparently.

My Goals:
To age as gracefully as possible by being fit and active. To achieve and maintain a healthy BMI and to feel good about how I look from any angle! I think to achieve that goal my weight must be somewhere south of 130. Probably 120 but initially I am shooting for 130

My Program:
Focus on achieving a minimum of 10,000 steps a day. During the winter this requires an hour or so on the treadmill every day.
I work out with a personal trainer 2X per week and this has really helped me become stronger and more flexible.
During the summer I golf and walk the golf course 4-5 X per week. On those days I achieve close to 20,000 steps a day. This is way more fun than my hours on the treadmill.
For nutrition I strive to make my calories as satisfying and nutritious as possible. I avoid processed foods. Eat most all vegetables fresh. I eat copious amounts of fresh fruit.

Personal Information:
I live in New Hampshire. My 18 year old niece lives with me. She is a senior in high school. When she goes off to college, I plan to spend a good amount of the winter in a warmer climate. New Hampshire is my home but I hate the cold more and more every year.

Other Information:
I love golf and the beach. I read over 50 books a year and love the movies.
I have also been teaching myself Italian for the past year.

That's so interesting that you "could have" lived in Toronto! My BIL (an architect, now living in Austin Texas) worked as a student on a previous addition to the Royal Ontario Museum (he joked that he was responsible for choosing the hardware in the washrooms!!) I think that a stint in either Honolulu or Charlotte would have been marvellous as well!! Driving into a big city is never much fun and takes longer than anticipated, especially in a driving rain storm!! Probably and hour and a half each way . . .

The Prisoner came to me as a little striped kitten with vet papers that declared him to be "Kitten #6" in a batch of rescues. Well, being a fan of the old TV series, I could not resist. In honor of Patrick McGhoohan, and in accordance with his feline personality, he became "The Prisoner".

How marvellous to celebrate your niece with a graduation party!!! No worries, you'll burn those calories on the golf course . . . you will (and in no time!)
