Striving for Health

I lost 50 lbs. with Weight Watchers. Got off Cholesterol and blood pressure meds. Then got Rheumatoid Arthritis, had 2 should repair surgeries when my bones cut through my rotator cuffs, and my weight loss came to a stand still, but for 7 years have kept that weight off. Now I'm using Spark People and getting results again. Still struggling with pain, medications, etc., but grateful and determined.

Hi Janis, before I head up to bed I thought I'd come and tell you that I've been cleaning all the flower beds lately. Whew, what a job and a half, that always is, but it's so rewarding too. As far as planting, I've decided to have a couple of veggies in containers. Beets and Spring mix lettuce. I'll also have to pick up a tomato plant. It's such a fun time of the year, isn't it? I feel that with having a few containers planted, that it won't be near the labor as a garden. I've sure done that before and it's so much work, especially with having RA. I've down-sized some on the flowers too, which makes me feel better. It's best that we can enjoy what we do love and not look down on it because of all the labor and pain it takes. That's my motto anyway! Have a good Friday tomorrow! Hugs, Karen

Thank you so much for reading and commenting to my blog about my dog, Mack's, health update and for sharing with me the story of your kitten. It's so true, we never forget the love our furry babies. Mack is hanging in there, and I'm trusting his doctors who are absolutely amazing. I appreciate your support so much! emoticon

Hi Janis, I have tried the memory foam, Costco had some toppers and we read the best is supposed to be 3" which is what we got. I didn't like it at all I am sorry to say. It is lack of movement that brings the pain on. If I sit too long I can barely get up for example as my back gets so sore and stiff. I think CJ had an idea. Maybe when I wake up and am hurting, do some gentle movement like Qigong or Tai Chi (or chair yoga) to get it moving and meditate then try go back to sleep. I maybe might have to get a hospital bed -some of my better sleeps have been in the hospital ironically. I am unable to get comfortable and sleep in a recliner like so many do that have back problems. Also the problem too right now is it really appears like I am having a widespread flare of one of my diseases and the total pain is simply too much to sleep long with -my whole left arm is affected from shoulder to hand right now. The pain meds I take at night either don't last long enough or are inadequate for this level of pain.

Good morning, Janis.

Thank you for your comment on my lingering cough. I don't think I have asthma. Can you get it this late in life?

The medication you asked about is in my cough syrup and it does work eventually. I just have to ensure I take the medication before I start coughing because if I wait until after, it takes forever to work.

I hope your asthma is doing better and that you don't have to go back to the hospital.

P.S. I just read your comment on my blog. The cough isn't coming from my chest; it's all in my throat but yes, I know I should probably call my doctor again. It's just that I hate having to take more time off work to see him since I've already missed so much this year.
