I am 59 years old. Weight has not always been a problem for me. In fact when I was a child and teenager and into my 20''s, I was really under weight. But, after 2 babies, a failed marriage and other life happenings, the weight piled on....a whole lot of weight. I have many health problems due to my obesity. I am definitely an emotional eater. I am married and have two grown children and two handsome, precious grandsons and two beautiful, wonderful granddaughters. One of my granddaughters suffers from Rett syndrome, a rare neurological brain disorder. My grandchildren are my inspiration. I want to live to see what they become. I want to be able to help take care of my granddaughter with Rett as long as possible.

My Goals:
I have approx 90 pounds to lose and I know the road will be hard. I also want to start exercising when I can (I have severe arthritis that limits that), but want to do what I can. I want to be healthy and not have so much pain. I am a diagnosed diabetic taking medication.

My Program:
Getting and STAYING active on SparkPeople. The staying part is the hardest for me. Since being diagnosed with diabetes, my doctor has always recommended a low carb diet to help control my blood sugars. No more than 30 carbs per day. Also my heart muscle doesn't relax....more meds. I also have severe arthritis in my knees which makes exercise difficult, but try to get out everyday and do at least some kind of exercise. I've done all of this to myself over years of being overweight. It is just not about choice any longer, it's about living or dying.

My name is Beth. I need to make some serious changes in my life. I quit smoking 3 years ago which I'm very proud of. But, now I have this weight that I just can't seem to get motivated about and it is killing me slowly but surely.

Other Information:
I like flower and cactus gardening, TV and reading. I had to stop working due to my arthritic body and depression. I never wanted to feel this bad in my 50s.

    JB, if you have a ymca near you. You can go to them an ask for fiscal paperwork an you can get a huge discount to free membership based on your income an I know most have water exceris classes if I had a car an a way to get to the YMCA near me I would have done this myself an I know based on my income I could probably get it free. Years ago I was married an had 3 children an based on my husband's income we all got membership for one price $10 a month so check into this and see it's well worth it. emoticon

    I don't have a car so I have tried to look up pool exercise classes although with my income I could probably get a discount at the YMCA but again no car an para transit isn't cheap would cost me $6 to get there an home. So I mainly tread water but I have carefully tried crunches in the water lol an just bounces on my feet. I figure anything is better than nothing but I had to buy pool shows today because I have blistered bottom of my feet just 2 steps into pool then when I get out my flip flops are as not as the cement. Water shoes I thought was perfect answer. It's currently 111 out but I am thinking after I text a bit cover with sunblock an go anyway. My Drs has told me I could only do pool exercise other wise I would find a video on spark an go for it lol. (Still might stick my toung out at Dr he has noidea There Is no shade An pool gets to hot lol)

    Thanks for comment yep I am gonna dress cool it's been rough an only just starting summer lol I already got burnt feet from cement going into pool so buying pool shoes today I go into pool to excerise it's easier on my body an wading burns calories
