It's Not about the Fast, It's about the Finish!

I'm a 30-something mother of 4. I joined SparkPeople in January 2009. My goal is to monitor my eating and exercise habits, and seeing the results in a slow, sensible pace.

I grew up having Hostess snacks in my lunches (every day), or Little Debbie whatevers. My portions were always double or triple what they should have been.

I grew up having Hostess snacks in my lunches (every day), or Little Debbie whatevers. My portions were always double or triple what they should have been.

I've lost 20+ lbs on SparkPeople, and a total of 30+ lbs since January 2009. I still have weight to lose, but I have my sights set on other goals while I get there. In 2009 I did two 5ks, an 8k, a half marathon, and 2 full marathons. Who knows what 2010 will hold! I have a goal to run 1+ miles per day!

Some of my milestones:

January 2009 - Weight loss begins; lost my first 10 lbs in this month

March 2009 - Heritage 5k - First 5k that I ran in. Previously walked many annual Breast Cancer 5k Walks.

April 2009 - 25 lbs down; went from a size 18 to a size 12

May 2009 - Frederick Running Festival Twilight 5k

July 2009 - Rockville Twilight 8k
Riley's Rumble Half Marathon

October 2009 - Freedom's Run Marathon & Marine Corps Marathon

For the new year (2010), I will be attempting a running streak goal. At least 1 mile or more per day. The first week was tough, as I was asking my body to do something it is not accustomed to...but if I'm going to make lifelong change, then I need to challenge myself to stay motivated and be that 'done' girl I said I would be!

Here is what my events are looking like:

March 2010 - Heritage Farm Park 5k
Run 2 Register 10k

May 2010 - Frederick Running Festival Half Marathon

June 2010 - Race 4 The Cure 5k

July 2010 - Riley's Rumble Half Marathon

October '10- Baltimore (not sure if it will be half or full)
Marine Corps Marathon

November - Turkey Trot 5k

'I am the Captain of my ship. I control it's wayward destiny.'

Wow! We didn't get nearly that much! Maybe 15-18 inches if our driveway is a good indication. Of course, there was already a foot on the ground, so our yard is pretty darn deep!

My husband and our neighbor borrowed a snowblower this time. It was still not easy, but much, much easier than the shovels would have been. This was a wet, heavy snow! I don't envy your shoulders one bit!

Hi Julie! We're also running out of places to put this stuff !!!!!
It is deep here and cold! Did some shoveling for the dogs to get out to the yard .... and Hubby had to go over to the neighbors (about 1/2 mi walking - SHeeesh!!) to get her heater running.

Other than that, though, power's on and not too bad. Always could be worse, right ?? How about you? Hope you are keeping warm !!!
