Thanks for stopping by my blog. I figured the running goal by thinking I could consistently do ten miles per week. Then I multiplied that by 52 weeks, but rounded down to the even 500. With the biking, I just tripled the running numbers. It was way harder to try and estimate, because it varies and the numbers are much higher once I can get outdoors to bike. The basement is not very motivating, but in my Canadian winter, the basement is necessary.
You should try to figure out what you can do in a week, and then try to make your goal force you to be consistent with that number. That's why I know I need ten miles per week to make my goal. It's too easy to say that I'll run tomorrow, or that this week it's too cold. I need to be consistent, or those days and weeks start to add up.
What do you do now for walking, that you can goal to be consistent with? It doesn't have to be in miles. Minutes work good too (as in ten minutes a day or 300 minutes in a month).
