My old mantra (getting skinny is more fun than getting fat) was getting stale, even though it is still true. I have begun to suspect that I have an eating disorder (binge eating) and that my focus on sugar, while noble and not wrong, may be missing the mark. If I can really not eat unless hungry (with some exceptions, of course), and if I can be reminded of this every time I open my spark page, I think I will see more success than I have over the last two years as I have watched my weight creep up a little.

I have been a proud and happy member of SparkPeople for 8 years. It is an extremely important part of my life. I feel like I am the ultimate work in progress. After an initial loss of 40 lbs. in 6 months, I have struggled. My struggles have included gaining back some of the weight and just bouncing around at a certain level. I think things are finally moving in the right direction again.

I have been plagued by the sugar monster. I have made quite a few false starts in my efforts to control my sugar consumption. However, I have read many books and watched many videos about the dangerous effects of sugar, and they are finally beginning to sink in.

Another goal I have for 2016 is to become a better role model for my fellow sparkers. I hope you get some inspiration from my page.

Personal Information:
I have lived in Northern NJ for most of my life. I have two great kids, a 30 year old daughter (attorney and aspiring tri-athlete) and a 27 year old son who is an assistant basketball coach at a junior college. I have also been married to the same guy for 38 years.

Other Information:
For most of my life I was not much of a reader. At some point I started listening to audiobooks and loved them. I especially liked Michael Connelly and Sue Grafton. But recently I haven't done it so much, partly because I currently have a relatively short commute.

I work as a technical writer in the pharmaceutical industry. It is contract work, so I am not sure how long my current job will last.

    I am trying to stay on SP but will not be active in any teams.

    I am actually making progress with Ray! It just doesn't take much at 95 to go down in a hurry. But I am in no hurry to be widowed and I am willing to give it my all.

    If at all possible, I will be leaving my page open. I would miss SP more than words can express - it's been my home away from home for 10 years now.

    It just isn't about the weight now - it's about Ray more than my weight. Hey, he loved me through "thick and thin" so he can love me in the middle too.

    How has life been treating you? How is your mother doing. Am I remembering correctly - she's in a nursing home? A couple of other members have starting bringing 'smoothies' with supplements added and getting good results.
