Growing up, I didn't have the best role models for exercise or healthy eating. My mom put a stick of butter in everything she cooked, I mean EVERYTHING! Veggies, pasta, bread, etc. It wasn't until I got out on my own that I realized just how bad all of that food was for me.

Growing up, I was teased every day at school for being overweight. I rode horses, which I consider a sport, but I wasn't doing it enough to make a difference.

In 2007, I was diagnosed with Hashimotos Disease (Hypothyroidism). Instead of feeling relieved--Yes, I finally know why I could never lose weight!--I felt defeated. I thought, "what's teh point of even trying if it's not going to come off?" I let my weight balloon and by the summer of 2009 I weighed 240lbs.

The pictures I saw from that summer prompted me to take action. I tried teaching myself how to eat right and workout, but I was never able to stay consistent and my weight yo-yo'ed as a result.

But then I found SP in 2011 and that all changed! Since joining sparkpeople I've stayed committed to getting healthy for the first time in my life! Yes, I've had ups and downs but the difference this time is that when I fall I know how to get back up and each time I make it up quicker.

As of January 28, 2014 (my 29th birthday) I am 170lbs! The last time I was in the 170s was 8 years ago. I'm stronger, faster, braver, and healthier than I have ever been in my life!

Working nights isn't easy, but it's worth it for me right now. If I had my way, I would stay home with my son and get a paycheck for it ;)

I stay pretty consistent on Spark. I've been struggling with weight loss though ever since I started on meds for my Hyperthyroidism. I could use all the help I can get, so I would love to join your group! I ate pretty clean yesterday, but I did not do 30 minutes of exercise... so I guess it would have to start today for me if that's ok.

I downloaded a c25k training app when I started running a couple years ago. But I haven't been running since before my son was born. So, it's been a long time and I'm totally out of shape. Good luck on your 10k and have fun!!

Let me know about your group!
    Thanks!

I saw your profile pic with that cute baby in the santa hat and I just had to stop by and say Hi! My name is Jessica, I'm turning 28 this month and I have an 8 1/2 month old baby boy. I also aspire to be a runner someday. It looks like you've done an amazing job with your goals and working toward becoming the healthy, active mom that your little boy deserves. I've gone up and down with my weight and struggle with being consistent especially since my son was born and I still work full time night shifts. I was wondering if you would like to be friends? I'm trying to find more people who are still active on this site because a lot of my old friends seem to have bailed, lol. Good luck and keep on sparking!

I've tried chocolate (not vegan), vanilla, and strawberry Shakeology and they are growing on me. I am down to my last two packets, but am not sure I can continue to justify the price tag it carries each month. How are you liking it?

I haven't been to Peru, but one of my sons lived there for a year, and loved it... and met his wife down there, even though she is actually from Florida, and they celebrate Peruvian Independence every year.... They live in Austin, and a local restaurant hosts the community of local Peruvians for a lot of music and singing and food and fun... the restaurant planned their festivities for a Saturday for convenience, I'm sure, and the REAL Peruvian Indepedence Day will have been honored on Monday.

We had hoped to visit Peru when he was there, but didn't manage it, although another son made it and although he and his wife were tourists, they had a lovely time as well, from Trujillo to Machu Pichu. Maybe some day I can get there, too!

Thanks for your comments and support on my blog about my sore neck! I haven't ever actually done Yoga or Pilates and when I read your comment about PiYo, I remembered an email from Beachbody advertising it. I went back and ordered it! I hope that it will help strengthen my neck, back, and core so that I can avoid these issues. Thanks again for taking the time to read and offer advice! I really appreciate it!
