Get Running!

I spent last year working hard to drop 50 lbs and 1 full dress size. I made the mistake of taking off 2-3 months (October - December), and while I gained a little back (about 10 lbs), I didn't think it hurt me that much. Boy was I wrong!
Now I'm back in the gym with my same old goal of getting in shape and better health (for the sake of myself and my kids), but I have a new goal - I want to run in a 5K. Even more, I want to run in the Zombie 5K. So, not only will I have to run, but there ...

Now I'm back in the gym with my same old goal of getting in shape and better health (for the sake of myself and my kids), but I have a new goal - I want to run in a 5K. Even more, I want to run in the Zombie 5K. So, not only will I have to run, but there will be people chasing me! It not only sounds crazy, but it sounds awesome! I guess you have to be a reader of books like World War Z and Zombie Survival Guide and maybe watch Walking Dead to understand my enthusiasm.
My wonderful husband has agreed to accompany me on this healthy journey for which I am very grateful (although I think he likes the idea of the Zombie 5K Run a little more than the exercise - but that's okay).
So, ever the optimist, we may not be ready for the Zombie Apocalypse this year (it's in April), but we plan to run in another local 5K later this year together as preparation, and then, come next April, it's on! I guess you could say that it'll be our weird reward to us for getting in shape! LOL Running from Zombies - how weird are we!

My Goals:
1. To become what I think of as A Runner.
2. To run in a 5K.
3. To run in The Zombie 5K Run.
*Sidebar Goals to those Goals*
1. Get healthier.
2. Lose weight.
3. Be stronger.
4. Be a good example for my kids!

My Program:
I am currently using the Couch to 5K program on my mobile phone to push me further in my running/walking training.

I am also weight/strength training on the off days that I'm not running/walking.

4/15/2013 Update: I've kind of slacked off from using the C25K program. Not that I'm not using it completely, just that I've enlisted the help of a personal trainer for 5 sessions. So I'm following his advice for a bit right now. He has me doing a personalized strength training routine and eliptical work 3 times a week and running 2 times a week with an additional run outside on Saturday mornings (when I can manage to get up before the little people come looking for me :-P ).

Personal Information:
I am a married, working mom of 2 beautiful little people. I live on a farm that we recently moved to, but am originally a "city girl". That being said, I wouldn't trade small town life for anything! It's gorgeous here in Western KY.

Other Information:
I enjoy being a "jack of all trades," and hope to one day be a master of several - I have high hopes, I know. I enjoy all forms of art and hands on activities - scrapbooking, painting, needlepoint, crafting, sculpting, sewing, drawing, baking, metalworking, gardening, woodworking, etc. as well as an eclectic appreciation for music, books (though I'm a sucker more for SciFi, Fantasy, Psychology, and Historical), and most anything gadgety or geeky. I guess I should mention that I'm a Civil Engineer. That might explain a lot.

Thanks for swinging by my blog. There is just one small bunny left that I am tucking out of sight. I am the only one that buys it and the only one that eats it so I need to keep control when shopping. I was OK before Easter but it is always the clearance sales that get me. Usually just Walgreens too. I need to just use the drive thru during the after sales :-)

I just had this thought and had to share. One of my friends has the Halloween Fairy, after Halloween trick or treating, the kids are allowed to pick 10 pieces of candy to keep, then the rest gets bagged up and put outside the front door. The Halloween fairy comes that night and gathers all the candy and leaves them a toy/gift. I think we should extend that fairy to Easter too.
My kids didn't get much more than 10 pieces of candy each this year, and I haven't thrown it out because its theirs and not mine, but I need to, cause I want to steal from them!!
