Looking forward to the year ahead....a healthier happier me :-)
Hello my name is Joan, I’m 24 living in NYC. I joined spark in July 2009. I am looking for some extra guidance in my weight loss journey. I mean this site has truly opened my eyes. Seeing so many others who have struggled and succeed and everywhere in between just lets me know I am not alone, so many people are going through the same thing I am. I really think that this site is a blessing :-) the best advice is to Never give up! The best time to start (again) is right now! I ...
I shouldn't think about rushing to lose a certain amount of lbs in a short period of time. I have to learn to be patient. My mentality for working out has been work out everyday…but I do a minimum of 5x cardio and 3x strength. I’ve created a small group as well to keep my momentum going. Right now I have tried to incorporate 50 push-ups / 50 squats / 100 crunches every night. I watch what I eat and my portion sizing, I still have trouble with drinking the 8 oz of water a day but I do try. I think I am stronger then I have ever been my entire life and it feels great. I am turning 25 in February and my ideal weight and reward for my birthday is about 155-145 and a new outlook on life. Not always worrying about losing weight but just staying healthy and enjoy life! I want to eventually run a 5k and 10k. I learned a few things though out this journey so far; I have caught myself when I start to just eat randomly or if I just keep putting food in my mouth, I have started to ask myself why? Why are you eating this? Are you hungry or are you just thirsty? I have to remind myself food is fuel for my body; I just need it to function. If I look back overall at 2009 I have lost 16 lbs, even though there were times I was not consistent and my hope is to lose the other 20lbs this year. --A good tip is take a photo of yourself (front, right/Left side, and back) once a month and see the results for yourself!! Also keeping track of your measurements help too:) I took photos the first 3 months this year and didn't take one again until November and all this time I thought I looked like I did back in January and in reality I looked nothing like that person! I could see the difference and lets me know that my goal is obtainable!

My Program:
I go to the gym at least 4-6x a week. I use the elliptical machines and treadmill for about 30 minutes. I also do free weights and occasionally do the 30 day shred I am also dabbling in the Power 90 dvds. I have a huge calander in my room to track down my work out so I can constantly see my workout ethics. I have to prepare my meals a day ahead of time which makes it easier to eat healthy. I try to drink at least eight 8oz glasses of water.
Personal Information:
My name is Joan and I moved to NYC almost a year ago from MD. I love to hang out with my friends and family: always like to be in good company. I'm still new to this city and always looking to make new friends. My spare time I love to sing and dabble in voice over acting. I'm slowly trying to build a recording "studio" in my room. I have the mic and amp so far just practicing while I save money for everything else I need. I'm guitly for loving gossip magazines. I love music videos from every era. I don't know if its somehting I got from my dad but nothing like listening to your favorite song with visuals, it's a let my mind get away for a bit. I love to go out occasionally and get dressed up (thats always the fun part) looking forward for those skinny days so I can really show of my sense of fashion.
Other Information:
I'm listening to Sade Soldier of Love and I am beyond excited for her new album to come out in Feb. 09 my bday :) I am currently reading Help.
